  2. 2. Outline ๏ 3 main time periods: - Founding / Monarchy - getting started 750 - 509 BC - Republic - rise to power 509 - 27 BC - Empire - 27 BC - 1453 AD, 1806 AD - Rome itself “fell” in 476 AD ๏ I’m obviously going to over-simplify almost everything.
  3. 3. The Early Years ๏ Lost in Myth ๏ Romulus and Remus, twin infants of Greek descent, left on banks of the Tiber ๏ Grow up among the locals ๏ They both found the city, later named Rome
  4. 4. The Early Years ๏ Romulus kills Remus, invites everyone he can find into the city - Almost entirely criminals - Kidnapped and raped their women ๏ Roman myths are weird
