MEDIUM: future of blogging?
This new tool/publishingplatform
assembles "quality media"
Started by Twitter founders Evan
Williams and Biz Stone
Whereas images, video, and the like are
secondary to text on blogs and Twitter,
Medium's supposed to be able to bend
equally to everything
So beautiful, so easy to use, but...what is it
really?

What’s your worth?
There are a lot of ad agencies that take in bloggers/influencers: adVice, Bloggernet.eu, adFactor
(dutch), Blogmij (dutch)
In the US there is an overload of bloggers, so brands can choose. Average bloggers get 100-200
dollar for an advertorial
In the Netherlands there are not (yet) many quality blogs, so the big bloggers make good money with
their exclusive agencies. Some even over 50.000 euros a year!
Payment mostly based on unique traffic, but more and more they are looking at engagment and
power to persuade (influence)
Banners are called spot-advertising. You are very lucky to earn an average of 2 to 3 euro’s CPM.
That’s 2 euro’s for every 1.000 pageview. With 50.000 pageviews, you make 100 to 150 euro’s.
Advertorials and more intense cooperation between brand and blogger can get you from 250 to 750
euros. Depending on how big your blog or influence is

join or stay indepentdent?
It’s up to you!
Determine long term goals for your blog.
Journalist? Stylist? Want to be a professional
blogger, or just use your blog as a portfolio?
Review the pros and cons of joining a blog network
Blog networks can bring a steady income and large
amounts of traffic, but you will still have to give up
a portion of the ad revenue generated from the site
When you join a network, you can’t just lean back
for a while: regularly blogging is a must
Can you grow your blog yourself and generate the
same amount of ad revenue as you would when you
were part of a blog network?
