JCD Portfolio UC Merced

  1. 1. PROJECT: Landscape concept design for two-phase student housing complex. Fast-track construction documentation and support for LEED Gold first phase, The Summits. ROLE: Project manager, lead designer, for PGAdesigninc. SITE: Sloping 4-acre site at University of California’s newest campus, UC Merced. Landscape areas include frontage along the main campus street, conversion of a road into a pedestrian plaza, and a large central courtyard offering an active lawn area, barbecue, informal stage, and shaded spaces for outdoor study and relaxation. Drawing from the visual quality of the surrounding Central Valley landscape, the design features long parallel lines of trees, paving bands, seat walls, benches, and trellises. Paths and planting cross the long lines at an angle, forming parallelograms of paving, shrubs, and grasses. The design highlights local paving materials and native plants. Walks and terraces provide universal access across the sloping site.UC Merced Student Housing Judy Clark Dale  •  Landscape Architect  •  Portfolio
