Youth subcultures

 1. 1. Youth subcultures
 2. 2. “ A youth subculture is a youth-based subculture with distinct styles, behaviours, and interests. Youth subcultures offer participants an identity outside of that ascribed by social institutions such as family, work, home and school. Youth subcultures that show a systematic hostility to the dominant culture are sometimes described as countercultures.” - Wikipedia

Examples of youth subcultures.

BBC Switch’s ‘Them’ is a perfect example of what youth subcultures are, and how they evolve with generations.

‘ Them’ was an online, interactive series of programs about teenage labels in the UK.

It studies the contrast in different lifestyles, people of a similar age choose to live. This will ensure that audiences immediately understand what genre of music they are, and what their lifestyles are like within two minutes of a video.
