2. 2. Winbatch Expert

Name: Jeffrey Rabin

Company: LJR Group, Inc.

Website: http://ljrgroup.servehttp.com

Years Programming in Winbatch: 10+

Number of Programs Written: Hundreds

Programs on Website written in Winbatch: ALL

 3. 3. What is Winbatch?

WinBatch is an interpretive scripting language for Windows 2008, Vista, 2003, XP, and W2K.

Macros can be run from icons, hotkeys, or other software macros to automate all aspects of PC operation.

WinBatch+Compiler, the corporate development package, makes executable runtimes for unlimited distribution.

Featured in WinBatch are a simple BASIC-like syntax, network management, string-handling, keystroke recording, and various functions for file management, directory management, disk drive management, Window management, mathematical computation, DDE, OLE, messaging, serial communications, internet communications (including email and ftp), Windows control manipulation and multi-media events.

 4. 4. Benefits of Winbatch

The programming language. It comes complete with functions pre-wired to handle tasks you must code in other tools.

Rapid deployment. Because most of the work is already done for you in free sample code, you finish projects faster. In short, WinBatch provides macro automation for everything on a Windows 2008, Vista, 2003, XP, and W2K machines. WinBatch+Compiler turns macros into royalty-free executables that can be run from within any custom app or database.

 5. 5. Why Use Winbatch?

Save time by automating work

Run Windows PC's unattended

Standardize data entry by scripting

Automate PC Management

Do most any network administration task

Allow rapid prototyping of software projects

Allow programming of a vast array of utilities and smaller programs

Traveling Salesman Example

Before Google Maps allowed Multiple Routes

Could not provide it as freeware as Google has a strict policy on their mapping program

Also works with Yahoo.

Will map out the quickest route for up to 10 locations (think pizza delivery or schoolbus).

Validated addresses using USPS then got the routes between each location.

 27. 33. Cheaper Alternatives To Winbatch

Kixtart – Careware - http://www.kixtart.org

KiXtart is a free-format scripting language and has rich built-in functionality for easy scripting. It supports COM (providing access to ADSI, ADO, WMI, etc) and thus is easily extensible. Since version 4.50 KiXtart comes with inbuild pre-tokenization system for faster loading and smaller scripts and providing some level of intellectual property protection through obfuscation. With the amazing KiXforms GUI for KiXtart, there is so little, if anything you can't accomplish with KiXtart. And thanks to User Defined Functions (over 600 ready to use UDF's on korg already), there is very little you need to code by yourself as much of the complex stuff has already been coded for you!

AutoIt – Freeware – http://www.autoitscript.com

A freeware automation language for Microsoft Windows . In its earliest release, the software was primarily intended to create automation scripts (sometimes called macros ) for Microsoft Windows programs. [2] Such scripts proved useful for "hands-free" completion of highly repetitive tasks, such as rolling out a large number of PCs with identical installation instructions. With later releases, AutoIt grew to include enhancements in both programming language design and overall functionality.

With the release of AutoIt version 3, the syntax of the programming language was restructured to be more like the BASIC family of languages. A script can be compiled into a compressed, stand-alone executable which can then be run on computers that do not have the AutoIt interpreter installed.

 28. 34. In Summation

Winbatch is an interpretive language with and awesome IDE and support

Winbatch allows for rapid prototyping and quick one-off programming to perform Data Migration/Conversion

Extensive library of functions allows me several ways of completing a function

In over 8 years of using it, I have yet to have a problem.
