  1. 1. 68Erbio –ErbiumMass: 167,259 u[Xe]  4f12 6s2Melting point: 1802 KBoiling point: 3141 KDensity: 9,066 g/cm-3Discovery: Carl Gustaf Mosander, 1842A trivalent element, pure erbium metal is malleable (or easilyshaped), soft yet stable in air, and does not oxidize as quickly as someother rare-earth metals. Its salts are rose-colored, and the element hascharacteristic sharp absorption spectra bands in visible light, ultraviolet, and near infrared. Otherwise it looks much like the otherrare earths. Its sesquioxide is called erbia. Erbiums properties are to adegree dictated by the kind and amount of impurities present. Erbiumdoes not play any known biological role, but is thought to be able tostimulate metabolism.(in Spanish: Erbio)
