The Hobbits that were takenby Uruk-Hai finally escape their grasp butare they in more danger by treading into theold forest of Fangorn?
  2. 2. Star Wars: A New Hope (1977) – Directed by George LucasSynopsis – The galaxy in a state of civil warand a rebel ship has stolen the plans for adeadly weapon which belongs to the Empirewho have an imperial star cruiser on their tail. The rebel ship is taken onboard and all thetroopers are killed except for the supposed‘Rebel Leader’ Princess Leia who has sent twodroids with the empires weapon plans to theplanet Tatooine, Princess Leia is thenkidnapped by the Dark Sith Lord Darth Vader. The droids are found by Luke Skywalker whothen gets found Old Ben Kenobi. With theplans they go on an adventure to save thegalaxy from the Empires secret weapon, ‘TheDeath Star’.
  3. 3. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) - Directed by Gore VerbinskiSynopsis – Blacksmith WillTurner teams up witheccentric pirate Captain JackSparrow to save his love, thegovernors daughter, fromJacks former pirateallies, who are nowundead, thanks to a cursedchest of 882 pieces of AztecGold that they stole, theirultimate goal in theirundead life is to becomemortal again.
  4. 4. What attracts me to a genre? The factors that attract me to the Fantasy genre are actors, storyand special effects. Ian Mckellen who was Gandalf the White inLord of the Rings: The Two Towers helped influence my decisionto watch it because he is a well known actor and because IanMckellen is an old actor who has been in films such as Gods andMonsters and Richard the 3rd, he would be perfect for an old, wisecharacter. Also, the story of Star Wars: A New Hope keeps you askingquestions from the start of the film, such as, why is a spaceshipflying away from the empire?, What planet is Princess Leia aprincess of? and what’s under Darth Vader’s mask? The main star of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the BlackPearl was Johnny Depp who has been in a few successful films inthe past such as, Sleepy Hollow (1999) and Edward Scissorhands(1990), having him in a film about pirates wouldn’t be a problemfor Johnny Depp as most of the roles he has played were verydifferent and they varied. The Special effects of Pirates of theCaribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl keeps me watchingbecause of the special effects used on the zombie pirates as theylook realistic when they are in the moonlight. The story of Piratesof the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl keeps youinterested as it makes you want to know how pirates becamezombies and why they are after golden coin.
  5. 5. How do I find out about my films?I find out about the films I watch via avariety of ways; television trailers arescreened throughout the day on mostchannels, advertisements inmagazines, newspapers and flyersaround major cities, trailers beingadvertised on websites, suchas, EMPIRE, YouTube and Facebook.Another way I find out about films isfrom word of mouth of my family andfriends and people who are involved infilms on television. Putting theseadvertisement on these places keep uswell informed on what films are comingout, who are in the films and what thefilms are about.
  6. 6. IntertextualityIntertextuality is used in the fantasy genre in a fewways it is where films make references to other filmsof that genre, for example, in the film series ofIndiana Jones the character “Indiana Jones” is basedon the old adventure films from the 1930’s, all of thecharacters in these films were the exact same hat asIndiana Jones and got into bad situations with oldartefacts.Another example of Intertextuality would be thecharacter “Han Solo” in the Star Wars franchise, thecharacter Han Solo was based on the gunslingers inthe old western films in the 1930’s, Han wore a beltwith his blaster holder on it, wore a sleevelessblazer and big boots, paying homage to thecowboys in the 1930’s films.
  7. 7. Star TheoryStar theory has been used infantasy films a lot of times, startheory is where you get certaincelebrities to play certain rolesbecause of their past performancesor to make their film look moreappealing to the audience. An example of this would be usingis using Johnny Depp was the maincharacter in the “Pirates of theCaribbean” films as he has been in alot of very popular films, suchas, Edward Scissorhands(1990), Finding Neverland (2004)and Ed Wood (1994).
  8. 8. Reception TheoryReception theory is were an audiencewatches something and then theyrelate to it in their every day life. It isused in fantasy so the audience candecide what’s right and what’s wrong. An example of reception theory wouldbe in “Star Wars” the emperor wantsto kill everyone and rule theuniverse, the audience would then beable to easily decide with their ownvalues what’s wrong with what theemperor is planning and that aprotagonist would have to step up inthe film and in real life with smallersituations.
