  2. 2. What is a Motherboard? ■ Alternatively referred to as the mb, mainboard, mboard, mobo, mobd, backplane board, base board, main circuit board, planar board, system board, or a logic board on Apple computers. The motherboard is a printed circuit board that is the foundation of a computer, located on the back side or at the bottom of the computer chassis. It allocates power and allows communication to the CPU,RAM, and all other computer hardware components.
  3. 3. Parts of the Motherboard ■ Central Processing Unit (CPU) ■ Central Processing Unit (CPU) ■ Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) ■ Complimentary Metal Oxide Semiconductor Random Access Memory (CMOS RAM) ■ Cache Memory ■ Expansion Bus ■ Chipsets ■ CPU Clock ■ Switches and Jumpers CP U Cache Memory
  4. 4. Chipset ■ A chipset is a group of small circuits that coordinate the flow of data to and from a PC's key components. These key components include the CPU itself, the main memory, the secondary cache, and any devices situated on the buses. A chipset also controls data flow to and from hard disks and other devices connected to the IDE channels. ■ A computer has got two main chipsets: ■ 1)The NorthBridge ■ 2)The SouthBridge
  5. 5. NorthBridge ■ Northbridge is an Intel chipset that communicates with the computer processor and controls interaction with memory, the Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI) bus, Level 2 cache, and allAccelerated Graphics Port (AGP) activities. Northbridge communicates with the processor using the frontside bus (FSB).
  6. 6. SouthBridge ■ Southbridge is an Intel chipset that manages the basic forms of input/output ( I/O ) such as Universal Serial Bus ( USB ), serial , audio, Integrated Drive Electronics ( IDE ), and Industry StandardArchitecture ( ISA ) I/O in a computer.
  7. 7. Data Base ■ A database is a collection of information that is organized so that it can easily be accessed, managed, and updated. In one view, databases can be classified according to types of content: bibliographic, full-text, numeric, and images.
