  23. 23. MODULE 9: SERVICE STEP 2 : PROVIDING THE SERVICE As you go about your service, think about these pointers. If they a pointer are is good, √ check the box next to it .  Accept kind words with grace., dDo not react negatively or reject or laugh at words of appreciation. Be gracious in accepting compliments. Say ‘thank you for your kind words’ in response.  If you are upset about someone’s language or behaviour, take a stand by walking away rather than staying. By staying, you are supporting the person’s actions ??? non- verbally.  Whatever you put out to others, is what you will get back, so treat other people in exactly the way you want them to treat you. So For example, say you are sorry when you feel you have been wronged someone or done something wrong; don’t be stubborn.  Choose a life path from based on your talents and from on what you love doing – the more you shine, the more light you can shine on the community. PARTNER WORK Share an experience that you have had while you were doing a service tofor the community. Did doing the service add value to your experience? If you it have did not, ask yourself why not?. What could you have done better? 21
  24. 24. MODULE 9: SERVICE STEP 3 : REFLECTING ON YOUR EXPERIENCES .  Put a check if you think the pointers are good ideas .  Keep a journal to reflect on your experiences in serving others.  Do you like what you are doing and can you make the experience any better for yourself and others?  What have you learnt about yourself and do you like it?  How has this service experience helped you to be more conscious of your role in the community?  Wouilld you continue to serve when the project is completed? Use these pointers as a reflection for your service-learning journey. 22
