Forming The band consists of Tom Fletcher, Danny Jones, Dougie Poynter, and Harry Judd. They began to form since 2002 as Tom had been working with the band Busted where he was replaced on the bands line up but continued to working with them. He later met Danny at the audition of the short lived boy band “V” where Danny had mistaken that he was auditing for an instrumental band and not singing group. The two soon began to work together writing songs for Busted. Once bustard’s second and last album was finished Tom and Danny started their own project which lead them meeting Harry and Dougie in the auditions for their band that was currently unnamed band. The name “Mcfly” came from Michael J. Fox’s Back To The Future character Marty Mcfly.
DebutThe band’s first studio album“Room On The 3rd Floor” releasedin July 2004. The first song of thealbum “5 Colours In Her Hair”went straight to number 1 in thecharts in April 2004. When thealbum came out they became theyoungest band to have a debutalbum to top the charts, theprevious record was healed byThe Beatles. During the beginningof their career they weresupporting Busted on their U.Ktour. September that same yearthey went bon their firstheadlining tour.
Since the success of their firstalbum Mcfly began recordingtheir second "Wonderland".The first single for the albumwas the comic relief charitysingle "All About You" whichwent straight to number 1 inMarch 2005. The second singlefrom the album "Ill Be OK"went to number 1 in April2005 becoming the bands 4thnumber 1. The album cameout late April 2005 and wasnumber 1 on the album charts.
Film DebutIn the 2006 teen comedy"Just My Luck" all fourmembers of Mcfly playedthemselves within the filmwhich also stared the likesof Lindsay Lohan and ChrisPine. Mcfly also did thesoundtrack for the filmwhich was their first USalbum and lead to theirfame over in America.
Their first single from their 2006 albumwas "Please Please" which was releasedin July and went straight to number 1 inthe chats, the single also included theSport relief office song, which was acover of Queens "Dont Stop Me Now”.The album was released in theNovember on the year, however thesecond single from the album “Star Girl”came out two weeks before thealbum, the single also went to number 1in the charts. The third single from thealbum “Sorry’s Not Good Enough” alsoincluded the song “Friday Night” whichfeatured in the 2006 film “Night At TheMuseum”.Mcfly then went on two tours thatstarted in September 2006 and the otherin March 2007.
In November 2007 Mcflyreleased their greatesthits album called “All TheGreatest Hits” whichconsisted of their hitsongs since they formed in2004. It also featuredthree new songs.
Mcfly’s 2008 album “Radio:Active” had afree sample in “The Mail On Sunday” inthe July of 2008 and was properlyreleased in the September of the sameyear.The first single of the album “One for theRadio” charted at number 2 in June 2008after it was included on Radio 2’s A list.The second song from the album “DoYa/Stay With Me” was also the officialsong of the Children In Need of 2008however it became their lowest chartingsingle as it only reached number 19 inthe charts.Mcfly arranged two new tours in 2009one of which was a small venue theother an arena.
Mcfly’s first single form their 2010album “Above The Noise” was “PartyGirl” was released in the Septemberof 2010 which reached number 7 inthe charts, however the music videowas voted number 1 in the 4musicVideo Honors 2010. The album wasreleased in the November along witha DVD film “Nowhere To Run” whichfeatured the songs of the album withthe band staring in it.The second single “Shine A Light”featured Taio Cruz reached number 3in the charts.The third single “That’s The Truth”was released in March 2011.
Television In 2011 Mcfly had their own TV documentary series “Mcfly On The Wall” that aired on 5Star. In late 2011 Harry won “Strictly Come Dancing”, while Dougie went to Australia and won “I’m A Celebrity..Get Me Out Of Here”. The band also went on to the celebrity versions of “Deal Or No Deal” and “The Cube” to win money for charity.
