This presentation gives a security overview for small and medium businesses. First presented at the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, the goal of this presentation sought to explain to business owners some of the security issues that they might face, and how they might address these problems before they had the potential to become disasters. We look at physical security, access control, video surveillance, information security, disaster recovery, security planning, licensing, and more.

  • Business Firewalls provide:Increased Manageability\\Web FilteringSpam FilteringIntrusion Prevention
  • All Antiviruses aren’t the same. Ask the right questions:Does the antivirus software work in a network environment? Is the antivirus software updated often? Is the antivirus software from a reputable company?
  • A few questions to ask yourself about backups:File level or block level backups? What’s the estimated recovery time?Does the solution provide redundant backups? How long can the backup be archived?
  • A few questions about users:Is your user count static, or do you plan to grow/shrink?Can you identify types of user by job role or usage? Are certain users more of a risk than others?
  • Questions you might want to ask about licensing:What’s is the term of renewal for each license? Is the license hardware-independent?Does license renewal allow for continued use, or upgrades?
