The United States Postal Service has announced the new GPS data requirement that will be incorporated into the postal network highway contract routes. The requirement may be retroactively applied to existing contracts as an addendum. You may be receiving the PS Form 7406 with the specific language of the requirement which must be signed and returned to the USPS by September 10th. The addendum is binding. The USPS is targeting November 15th, 2010 for network wide implementation across all affected contracts. What does it mean to contractors? Contractors must acquire and implement a GPS on-board system on their vehicles or GPS capable phone solution. Either solution must be capable of generating a compliant stream of data that is automatically transmitted to the USPS web services. Not every GPS system will comply with the requirements and if you have an existing system, please check with the USPS if it is on the list of certified solutions.

A: You can use any Android based phone. If your phone is based on Android OS you can use it. Q: What wireless carrier is used for the cell phone solution? A: LoadTrek.phone can be used with any carrier of your preference. If you have an existing contract, you can continue using the same carrier.* Q: Do we set up our own wireless plans and acquire phones or are they provided as part of the solution? A: If you have existing plans those can be used, but you may need to add a data plan with new phones. LoadTrek.net team can also help you set up new wireless plans and select appropriate phones. Q: How much work is it to set up LoadTrek.phone solution? A: First you must set up Postal Trips, which takes about 2 minutes per trip. Sometimes trips can be imported. Second, you need to train the drivers. LoadTrek.net has on-line training videos on how to use the phone application and a hardcopy driver manual. You can be up and running in one week.
