  1. 1. JOE BENEDETTO schoolcounselorjoe@gmail.com778 Hawthorne Place (585) 760-9269Webster, NY 14580  May 20, 2012Dear Prospective Employer,Thank you for visiting my website. It is my hope that it will give you a better understanding ofwho I am and how I can excel as a high school counselor and/or middle school counselor in yourschool. On May 12, I graduated from Alfred University with a Master of Science in Educationand Certificate of Advanced Study in Counseling. I have spent the past three semesters workingprimarily with middle and high school students as a school counseling intern in a rural K-12school, but I believe I am an open enough person to work with students of other populations aswell. Wherever I end up, my goal is simple: to do everything I can to prepare students for thenext step in their lives.During my studies at Alfred University, I molded myself from a student into a professionalcounselor, learning skills from professors as well as the school counselors I shadowed atWayland-Cohocton Central School in Wayland, NY. As an intern at Wayland-Cohocton, Ideveloped a directive, yet empathic approach, which I use while speaking with students. Ibelieve I have a unique ability to connect with students, especially those with special needs. Therelationships I have built with some students have already had a lasting impact on their personaland academic lives. While developing rapport is a key component of my counseling approach,my greatest skills are teaching students to self-advocate and motivating them to succeed. Theseskills allow me to connect with students in a way that is both therapeutic and educational.I am excited to begin my career as a school counselor and know from my internship experiencethat I have the ability to thrive while working with students. Please contact me by phone, mail,or email if you would like to know more, and I can give you a better understanding of how myskills will benefit your school, its faculty and, most importantly, its students. Thank you verymuch for your time.Sincerely,Joe BenedettoMaster of Science in Education in Counseling
