My arts installation on synethesia which is from the ancient Greek σύν (syn), "together," and αἴσθησις (aisthēsis), "sensation," is a neurologically based condition in which stimulation of one sensory or cognitive pathway leads to automatic, involuntary experiences in a second sensory or cognitive pathway.[1][2][3][4] People who report such experiences are known as synesthetes.

  9. 9. syn·es·the·sia / syn·aes·the·sia (sĭnĭs- thēzhə)n.A condition in which one type of stimulationevokes the sensation of another, as whenthe hearing of a sound produces thevisualization of a color.A sensation felt in one part of the bodyas a result of stimulus applied to another, as inreferred pain.
  10. 10. the image Through a memory-like sleep state I am aware of sensation of sound and image. I experience feelings of extreme heaviness, almost immobile, as if underwater, yet I can breathe. As if looking through the lens of a camera, blurred with Vaseline, I see a potato- like and toothpick-like image lying beside each other.
  11. 11. the imageSomething full of mass, thick and heavy.Yet something thin, small and lightweight.I experience feelings of paralysation.I cannot move my arms or legs.My breathing slows down as if I’m not breathing atall.My eyes are closed, yet they are open to see.
  12. 12. the environment Behind the images in front of me a yellow and white checkerboard wallpaper. An image of my childhood in the room I slept in around the age of 8.
  13. 13. the environment Above a windowless, borderless, dark and starry fortress surrounds me.
  14. 14. the environment I am floating in water. Almost like weightless gravity, but I cannot move.
  15. 15. the sound The sounds are outside of my head, but not in the distance. They penetrate my soul through vibrations. My brain makes sense of them – though they make no sense. Sounds begin to overlap. It is a void, but not devoid of feeling or emotion, as the sounds evoke a kind of trance- like status.
