2. Why is audience feedback important?
• When creating any media text audience feedback is
always helpful to help you improve your work.
• The feedback could highlight an issue that may have
been missed.
• When sourcing my own feedback I showed my short
film to an audience aged between 16-25. I decided to
set up this focus group as this is the intended target
audience from my film. This was helpful as I could see
wether they liked the film and if they felt it was
suitable for them . This feedback could then help me
decide how I would advertise and promote my film.
3. What types of feedback are possible
• There are many ways of carrying out audience
research and receiving feedback.
Type of feedback Strength Weakness
Questionnaire The participants can
be completely honest
as the questionnaire
is anonymous.
People may be
reluctant to
participate as this
can be time
consuming.
Focus groups The participants are
able to watch the
film in controlled
conditions and the
film makers will be
able to see their
initial reactions .
Participants may be
tempted to lie to
please the people
they are with or try
not to offend.
Asking Friends and
family
This is a cost
effective way of
carrying out research
The response could
be biased as they are
your friends , giving
5. My Feedback
• From the previous graph I could see that on average
females enjoyed the film more than Males. I predicted this
would be the case as the film is about two female
characters. I could use this information to help me market
my film attracting girls using more feminine colours such as
pink or purple.
• More females would watch this film compared to boys.
Although these results are important they were taken from a
focus group of people aged between 16-25 years old. To gain a
more representative sample I would have to ask more people
and get a bigger sample, considering different ethnic
backgrounds , social class and their locations.
6. My feedback
• When peer assessing my short film in class I
received comments about the sound in the
park scene, as there was a lawn mower which
was louder than the dialogue in the scene.
This made it hard to hear and this created a
whole in the plot . We attempted to solve this
by recording the audio and matching this with
the footage.
7. How useful was the feedback
• The feedback I received was very useful and
helped me when creating the ancilliary tasks
as I was able to identify our target audience
had a female skew therefore I made sure to
have the female character on the poster.
• I also used the feedback to help improve my
short film and fix an issue with the
sound, which could have potentially made my
film less enjoyable.
