Using the ResearchTies "Share Source" Feature

  1. 1. Using the “Share Source” Feature for FamilySearch® Family Tree
  2. 2. Sign in to your ResearchTies account. The “Share Source” function is available from the Results template. Use the search engine to locate past entries, or share while entering new data.
  3. 3. After entering a result, click on “Share Source.”
  4. 4. The first time you use ResearchTies with FamilySearch, the program will ask your permission to allow the programs to interact. Click “Accept.”
  5. 5. You will be asked to sign in to FamilySearch.
  6. 6. A template will open showing the autofilled information that will be transferred to FamilySearch.
  7. 7. ResearchTies allows multiple documents to be attached to a result. FamilySearch only allows one. Use the dropdown to select the document you want to attach.
  8. 8. Add your reason for attaching the source.
  9. 9. Click any desired tags, then click “Share.”
  10. 10. Go to the FamilySearch record and scroll down to the Source section.
  11. 11. Your full citation, link, and any additional information have been shared with a few clicks!
