  2. 2. From Attalia* they (Paul & Barnabas) sailedback to Antioch*, where they had beencommitted to the grace of God for the workthey had now completed.
  3. 3. On arriving there, they gathered the churchtogether and reported all that God had donethrough them and how he had opened thedoor of faith to the Gentiles. And they stayedthere a long time with the disciples.
  4. 4. Some menUnless you are came downcircumcised, accordingtofrom Judea* to the custom taughtby Moses, you cannot Antioch* andbe saved. were teaching the brothers:*
  5. 5. We are required to God looks at your heart, follow the law of not what’s on the outside. Moses.This brought Paul and Barnabas intosharp dispute and debate with them.
  6. 6. So Paul and Barnabaswere appointed, alongwithWe’ll get this settled once some otherbelievers, to go up to and for all!Jerusalem* to see theapostles and eldersabout this question.
  7. 7. The church sentthem on their way,and as theytraveled throughPhoenicia* andSamaria, they toldhow the Gentileshad beenconverted. Thisnews made all thebrothers very glad.
  8. 8. When they came to Jerusalem, they werewelcomed* by the church and the apostlesand elders, to whom they reported everythingGod had done through them. Welcom e back!
  9. 9. The Gentiles must be circumcised and required to obey the law of Moses.Then some of the believers whobelonged to the party of thePharisees stood up and said,*
  10. 10. The apostles and elders met toconsider this question.
  11. 11. Brothers, you know that some time ago God made a choice among you that the Gentiles might hear from my lips* the message of the gospel and believe.After much discussion, Peter got up andaddressed them:*
  12. 12. God, who knows the heart*, showed that heaccepted them by giving the Holy Spirit* tothem, just as he did to us. He made nodistinction between us and them, for hepurified* their hearts by faith.
  13. 13. Now then, why do you try to test God by puttingon the necks of the disciples a yoke* that neitherwe nor our fathers have been able to bear? No! Webelieve it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus*that we are saved, just as they are.
  14. 14. The whole assembly became silent* as theylistened to Barnabas and Paul telling aboutthe miraculous signs and wonders* God haddone among the Gentiles through them.
  15. 15. Then theapostles andelders, with thewhole church*,decided tochoose some oftheir own menand send themto Antioch*with Paul andBarnabas.
  16. 16. They chose Judas (called Barsabbas) andSilas, two men who were leaders among thebrothers.
  17. 17. With them they sent the following letter:* The ap ostles and elders, your br others, T o the G entile beli evers in A ntioch, Sy ria and : Cilicia s. G reeting
  18. 18. We have heard that some went out fromus without our authorization anddisturbed you, troubling your minds* bywhat they said.
  19. 19. So we all agreed to choose some men and sendthem to you with our dear friends Barnabasand Paul— men who have risked their livesfor the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  20. 20. Therefore we are sending Judas and Silas toconfirm by word of mouth what we arewriting.* The letter is true!
  21. 21. It seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to usnot to burden you with anything beyond thefollowing requirements:* You are to abstain from 1. food sacrificed to idols, 2. from blood, Farewell! 3. from the meat of strangled animals 4. and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.*
  22. 22. The men were sent off and went down toAntioch, where they gathered the churchtogether and delivered the letter.
  23. 23. The people read it and were glad for itsencouraging message.
  24. 24. Judas andSilas, whothemselveswereprophets,said muchtoencourageandstrengthenthebrothers.
  25. 25. Jerusalem, here we come!After spending some time there, theywere sent off by the brothers with theblessing of peace to return to those whohad sent them.*
  26. 26. But Paul and Barnabas remained inAntioch, where they and manyothers taught and preached the wordof the Lord.
  27. 27. Some time later Paul said to Barnabas,* Let us go back and visit the brothers in all the towns where we preached the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.
  28. 28. Barnabas wanted to take John, also calledMark, with them, but Paul did not think itwise to take him, because he had desertedthem in Pamphylia* and had not continuedwith them in the work.
  29. 29. They had such a sharp disagreement that theyparted company.*
  30. 30. Barnabas tookMark and sailed forCyprus,*
  31. 31. but Paul chose Silasand left, commendedby the brothers to thegrace of the Lord. Hewent through Syria*and Cilicia,*strengthening thechurches.*
