Good Afternoon,Matt Schreier worked at BAC for 10 years and for the past 4 years I have done professional photography on the side.I created “Slide-ology” because day to day its imperative to provide a greater understanding and connection to the people you work with about the business.Slide-ology are concepts that help.
First & ForemostI wanted to thank you all for the opportunity to share this, Thanks goes out to the folks on my team, Mike, Jason, Drew, and Jeff for the initial interest in this stuff….So, I am a bit nervous and at the same time eager to hear your feedback because the first time that I presented this was to a group at BAC and all I got was crickets. Here there is a much more engaged, and more creative group of people, so I believe the bar is set much higher…
I wanted to start off setting your expectations of what I am providing and what I am not providing with Slide-OLOGY
1. Connect & challenge you to a different approach to presenting information in PowerPoint
Provide insight & spark ideas to take Slide-ology to the next level. This isn’t just my presentation anymore… It’s ours, and as a group we can only make things better by offering up changes, additions, & thoughts about how to take this further.Because in reality - working as a team with anything will only make us better at what we do
I say possibly, because I don’t want you leaving here, thinking this is the golden key to presentations. It’s a concept that could be applied…Its never always applied…And you will receive criticism from people either way you go about it because we all have our own opinions.
Lastly, and what I think is the most important is that Slide-ology and the information we present is a reflection of us all…Its Marketing, because you are promoting information within the presentationIts Strategy, because you had to have a concept of what information was to be included in order for you to make sense…And lastly, its Decision Science, because with out the right data & information to present with, your presentation becomes more like a campaign for re-election.
ContentFoundation – some simple cool facts that I have found that prove this concept is worth whileApproach – how to begin the creation of a presentationDevelopment – some notes on creating slidesAnd finally, The Story – which provides some thoughts on how to tell a store with business and not sound like a fairy tale
Think about how we carry out our daily lives today
How we get our news,Develop interest & purchase itemsRecall memories…
Much of it is through visualsTVINTERNETMAGAZINESEVERYDAY STUFF
This touches on a concept called visual learning
Are you truly exposing the information that you want people to know about? Are you providing context?Balance because in this example too much context without any exposure
Stacking graphs for larger amounts of information could help provide that balance
Don’t get too attached to the deck, even if you did something special Or there is a cool pictureDiagram…whatever!Learn how to walk away – its not a reflection of you and the work, its just adjusting the information appropriately for the audience
Save time by understanding how creative you are going to get
Each slide needs to have a messageStarting the slide out with that message helps audiences clarifyThen taking it a higher levelCan you give the elevator speech of what your presentation is in under a minute?
Snow WhiteAlthough corny and childish we are using this an example because most people know the story, if you don’t find someone who has the DVD and borrow it. I do not have the DVDHow would you tell the story of Snow White to someone that hasn’t been privileged to see the movie or hear the story before?
Beginning: Laying the groundwork & charactersMiddle: Enter the problem/villainEnd: Provide the happy ending and heroSame goes for stories in business using presentations…
That story is a constant balancing actThe new hire who doesn’t know anythingThe expert who knows the business and is ready to ask the questions about the details
So we have gone over the 4 areasThe foundationThe approachThe developmentAnd the storyHopefully you found this helpful
