Welcome to 5A <ul><li>Ms. Marlowe </li></ul><ul><li>[email_address] </li></ul><ul><li>We are expecting an exciting year! </li></ul><ul><li>Our goal is to guide your child so that he or she finds success. </li></ul><ul><li>No child will be allowed to deprive another child of their education. </li></ul><ul><li>That every child feels like they are the “Star of the Show !” </li></ul>

All about Ms. Marlowe… <ul><li>Graduated high school from East Bladen High School. </li></ul><ul><li>Completed my Bachelor and Masters work at East Carolina University </li></ul><ul><li>This is my third year teaching at the Columbus Charter School and I am SOOOO EXCITED to be in the 5 th grade again this year!! </li></ul><ul><li>I am very family oriented and have a close relationship with my parents, siblings and my nieces and nephew. </li></ul>

  6. 6. Drop-off & Pick-up <ul><li>Gates open at 7:30 am, before school care begins at 6:45 am. Please have all students in the classroom before 8:00 am. </li></ul><ul><li>The gate will close promptly at 8:00 am </li></ul><ul><li>If you arrive or are still in line at 8:00 am, you must go in through the office and sign your child in. </li></ul><ul><li>5th grade will release at 3:15 pm </li></ul><ul><li>Daycare begins at 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm </li></ul><ul><li>Smoke-free campus </li></ul>

Uniforms <ul><li>BOYS </li></ul><ul><li>Belts required, shirts tucked in </li></ul><ul><li>No jewelry, except watches </li></ul><ul><li>Hair must be off the collar and not below the ears (no excessive or radical haircuts) </li></ul><ul><li>GIRLS </li></ul><ul><li>Jumpers, skorts and skirts need to be KNEE LENGTH or longer </li></ul><ul><li>The mesh Polo dress in hunter green is allowed. </li></ul><ul><li>Shoes must be closed toe/closed heel (no crocs or clogs) </li></ul><ul><li>Jewelry – earrings must be studs or no bigger than ½ inch </li></ul><ul><li>Socks/Tights must be white or school green </li></ul>

New Reading Program 3rd-6th <ul><li>Basal Reading Program- Journeys </li></ul><ul><li>Reading fluency and comprehension, Spelling and Writing component that all tie together each day. </li></ul><ul><li>Reading textbook available online at_________ </li></ul><ul><li>Assessment EVERY five days unless otherwise notified in all three areas. </li></ul>

Additional Reading Homework <ul><li>Beginning Week 1 </li></ul><ul><li>Students will chose an appropriate reading level book from my library or the school library. </li></ul><ul><li>The student will have two weeks to read the book and complete a book report or presentation/project. </li></ul><ul><li>We will repeat this process every two weeks. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Social Studies <ul><li>We will begin the year learning the 50 states and capitals. </li></ul><ul><li>Our main focus in Social Studies this year are the states and capitals, The Revolutionary War, The Civil War, Judiciary process and the U.S. Presidents. </li></ul>

SCIENCE <ul><li>SCIENCE </li></ul><ul><li>This year we will study: </li></ul><ul><li>Biomes, Ecosystems, The Food chain </li></ul><ul><li>Landforms, Erosion, Weathering </li></ul><ul><li>Weather </li></ul><ul><li>Forces and Motion </li></ul><ul><li>There is also an EOG in this area. </li></ul>

Weekly Newsletter <ul><li>A 5 th grade newsletter and behavior log will go home every week and will be emailed to you. </li></ul><ul><li>The newsletter will include: </li></ul><ul><li>Upcoming school events </li></ul><ul><li>Important class information </li></ul><ul><li>Important dates </li></ul><ul><li>Behavior log on the reverse side </li></ul><ul><li>NOTE: Parents are required to sign and return this log daily. </li></ul>
  16. 16. Lunch and Snacks <ul><li>Your child needs to bring a healthy snack and lunch with them each day. </li></ul><ul><li>Fridays are HOT LUNCH. Send $3 in a zip lock baggie (NAME ON THE BAG) on or before Wednesday for this lunch. </li></ul><ul><li>A parent volunteer sheet is on the table by the door for you to sign up to deliver hot lunch. Our class is responsible for the 2 nd Nine Weeks. </li></ul>
  17. 17. Classroom Organization <ul><li>Student desks should always be neat and tidy. That means no papers hanging out or crammed into the desk. </li></ul><ul><li>Bookbags belong on the student’s assigned hook and not by their desk. </li></ul><ul><li>If you see trash on the floor, please pick it up. </li></ul><ul><li>Clean your desk off with a sanitary wipe after snack and lunch. </li></ul><ul><li>We are all responsible for keeping our room looking the best that it can. </li></ul><ul><li>Remember your bathroom etiquette and make sure we keep them clean and sanitary. </li></ul>

Classroom Parties <ul><li>We will have the following class parties this year: </li></ul><ul><li>Thanksgiving Feast </li></ul><ul><li>Christmas Party </li></ul><ul><li>Valentine’s Day Party </li></ul><ul><li>Birthday parties </li></ul><ul><li>We will need parent volunteers to organize these events. The sign up sheet is on the table by the front door. </li></ul>

Your help is crucial to our success. <ul><li>Parents and volunteers are always welcome in our classroom. </li></ul><ul><li>All visitors must sign in at the office and obtain a pass. </li></ul><ul><li>Parents/drivers for field trips. </li></ul><ul><li>A huge thank you to all parents and the many contributions you will make to our class this year. Your help is key to our success. </li></ul>
  20. 20. Attendance <ul><li>Please have your child at school and on time each day. Attendance is crucial to our work. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide a note upon return after an absence with an explanation of the absence. </li></ul><ul><li>1 day absent/1 day to make up missed work. </li></ul><ul><li>After 15 days of absences, your child will automatically be retained. It is out of our hands and turned over to the board of trustees. </li></ul><ul><li>Attendance is extremely important! </li></ul>
  21. 21. Field Trips <ul><li>We are planning several exciting activities, fieldtrips and learning opportunities for our students. </li></ul><ul><li>Most of the activities will be related to our Science curriculum. </li></ul>
