Fourdesignprinciples

 1. 1. Four Design Principles Technology 6 Mrs. Lemley
 2. 2. What are the four basic design principles?
 3. 3. 4 basic design principles:

Alignment

Proximity

Repetition

Contrast

 4. 4. What is alignment?
 5. 5. This isn’t alignment. This isn’t alignment. This isn’t alignment.
 6. 6. This is alignment. This is alignment. This is alignment. This is alignment. This is alignment.
 7. 7. Alignment

Items on the page are lined up with each other, both horizontally and vertically

There are three basic alignments: centered, left justified and right justified

 8. 8. Don’t mix alignments

Please.

For the love of God.

It looks lousy.

And it’s confusing.

 9. 9. What is proximity?
 10. 10. This isn’t proximity. This isn’t proximity either. or alignment
 11. 11. Proximity

Refers to the relationships that items develop when they are close together

Implies items are related (for example, the bullets on this list appear related because they are in close proximity to each other

 12. 12. What is repetition?
 13. 13. This is not repetition.
 14. 14. Repetition

Refers to the idea that designers should repeat certain elements to tie the disparate parts of a document together

Makes it seem like the individual nodes (or slides) are all part of the same text

 15. 15. What design elements has this slide show repeated?
 16. 16. It has repeated:

Fonts

Colors

Placement

And more…

 17. 17. What is contrast?
 18. 18. This isn’t contrast.

Nope. Not contrast either.

 19. 19. Contrast

Establishes a hierarchy of information

Can be obtained by manipulating font (style and size), color, background designs, etc.

Establishes a focal point

 20. 20. Where is the focal point on this page?

Is it this bullet?

How about this one?

Is it over here?

How about here?

 21. 21. 4 basic design principles:

Alignment

Proximity

Repetition

Contrast
