Project Rationale <ul><li>In 2007, less than 2% of Ryan White direct service funds were allocated to MH services and about 1% were allocated for SA services </li></ul><ul><li>Not addressing the MH and SA needs of PLWHA can lead to negative health outcomes </li></ul><ul><ul><li>impede adherence to antiretroviral regimens </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>prevent clients from obtaining medical care </li></ul></ul>

Project Overview <ul><li>Purpose </li></ul><ul><ul><li>determine the MH and SA service needs of PLWHA in Texas </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>create recommendations to facilitate access to effective treatment </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Method </li></ul><ul><ul><li>conduct document analysis on the comprehensive HIV needs assessments of 8 admin. agencies </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>examined themes regarding strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats </li></ul></ul>

Findings <ul><li>Gaps in Continuum of Care </li></ul><ul><li>dearth of programming specifically designed for PLWHA </li></ul><ul><li>difficulty in providing all services in rural areas </li></ul><ul><li>lack of effective service coordination among providers </li></ul><ul><li>need for improved referral processes </li></ul><ul><li>Access to Services </li></ul><ul><li>inaccurate information on services & eligibility </li></ul><ul><li>long wait times & difficulties making appts. </li></ul><ul><li>problems with cost & transportation </li></ul><ul><li>need for further staff training </li></ul><ul><li>stigma </li></ul><ul><li>active MH & SA issues </li></ul>
