Powerpoint Tips And Tricks!

  1. 1. Powerpoint Tips and Tricks! Presented by Mrs. Krupala April 14, 2009

Step 1: opening powerpoint <ul><li>Log in to the computer </li></ul><ul><li>Click on the Start menu at the bottom of the screen (you may need to choose “All Programs” at the bottom to find PPT) </li></ul><ul><li>Click on the Powerpoint icon </li></ul><ul><li>Click “OK” </li></ul><ul><li>Choose an AutoLayout </li></ul><ul><li>Click “OK” </li></ul>

Step 2: saving <ul><li>Click “File” at the top of the page </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Save” and then the arrow next to “Save in” </li></ul><ul><li>When the menu drops down, choose the “H Drive” </li></ul><ul><li>Name your file and click “Save” </li></ul><ul><li>From now on, you just need to click the save icon or hit “Ctrl” and “S” at the same time. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Step 3: background 1 design template <ul><li>Click “Format” at the top of the screen </li></ul><ul><li>Choose “Apply Design Template” </li></ul><ul><li>Scroll though and find one you like and click “Apply” </li></ul>

Step 3: background 2 Custom <ul><li>Click “Format” at the top of the screen </li></ul><ul><li>Choose “Background” </li></ul><ul><li>Click on the arrow by the box at the bottom </li></ul><ul><li>When the menu comes down, choose “More colors” if you just want to change colors, or “Fill effects” if you want to have more than one color or texture </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Apply to all” if you want all your slides to have the same background </li></ul>

Step 3: background 3 Picture <ul><li>Get the picture from Microsoft clipart (or the internet) </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Insert” </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Picture” and choose “Clip Art” </li></ul><ul><li>Choose “Clips Online” </li></ul><ul><li>Type a search word, find a picture, download it, and paste it into the powerpoint. </li></ul><ul><li>Drag to make it the right size </li></ul><ul><li>Once you’ve got it like you want it, if you want all your slides to have this picture, copy the whole slide and paste or do “Insert” and “Duplicate Slide” </li></ul>

Step 4: fonts <ul><li>Just like MSWord </li></ul><ul><li>Use the font menu at the top left to choose the style and size of font </li></ul><ul><li>Use the color menu at the bottom to change the color of the font and the fill color for the text boxes </li></ul><ul><li>Or, you could use word art </li></ul><ul><li>To layer, right click and use “order” to bring things forward or move them back. </li></ul>Plum Plum is complex like a ripened fruit It looks dark like a new bruise And ancient shadows It smells autumnal It feels secretive and deep It sounds like whispers Plum is complex like a ripened fruit

Step 5: pictures <ul><li>Click “Insert” </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Picture” and choose “Clip Art” and “Clips Online” </li></ul><ul><li>Or copy and paste from the internet </li></ul><ul><li>Use the picture toolbar below to crop (cut) the image and change its brightness, color, or transparency </li></ul><ul><li>If you use a picture from a website, </li></ul><ul><li>please give the site credit </li></ul><ul><li>by making a note on the slide </li></ul>www..tattooart.com

Step 6: sound <ul><li>Click “Insert” and “Picture” and choose “Clip Art” and “Clips Online” </li></ul><ul><li>Download the sound just like a picture </li></ul><ul><li>When you insert it, a little speaker icon will appear, and PPT will ask you if you want it to play automatically, or when you click on it, a picture or a WORD . </li></ul><ul><li>If you want it to play automatically, </li></ul><ul><li>you can drag the speaker off the slide so it won’t show when you are viewing the slideshow. </li></ul>

Step 7: slideshow <ul><li>Click on the “Slide Show” button at the top to play with slide transitions, action settings, creating a slide show that will play on its own, hyperlink to the internet or other slides, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Ask me if you need help with this and are finished with all the other elements of your project </li></ul><ul><li>AND DON’T FORGET TO SAVE FREQUENTLY! </li></ul>
