Placed Together by theProvidence of GodRead Acts 18:1-11Have you ever thought about the eventsthat have transpired to take your life towhere you are?
Placed Together by the Providenceof God1. Paul traveled from Athens to Corinth (about 50 mile s/w).2. Initially he is by himself.3. Corinth had a population of nearly 800,000.4. Corinth was known for its wickedness, to corinthinize was to becomeimmoral.5. The temple of Aphrodite claimed to have 1000 prostitutes.6. Paul encounters a Jew named Aquila.7. Aquila and Priscilla ordered to leave Rome (20,000 Jews wereordered by Claudius Caesar to leave because of disputes that arosebetween the Jews and Christians.8. Paul was drawn to them – same occupation, same faith, Acts 18:3.
Absorbed in Preaching1. Paul as usual reasoned in the synagogue, same as Acts 17:2, 17.2. Means to mingle “thought with thought.”3. Paul kept trying to persuade them to obey the gospel. He never gaveup.4. Silas and Timothy arrive, it is the last time we read of Silas.2Co 11:9 NKJV And when I was present with you, and in need, I was aburden to no one, for what I lacked the brethren who came fromMacedonia supplied. And in everything I kept myself from beingburdensome to you, and so I will keep myself.
Absorbed in PreachingActs 18:5 NASB But when Silas and Timothy came down fromMacedonia, Paul began devoting himself completely to the word, solemnly testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.1Co 9:13-14 NKJV Do you not know that those who minister the holythings eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altarpartake of the offerings of the altar? (14) Even so the Lord hascommanded that those who preach the gospel should live from thegospel. From Tent-Making to becoming Fully Absorbent
Absorbed in PreachingAct 18:6 NKJV But when they opposed him and blasphemed, he shookhis garments and said to them, "Your blood be upon your own heads; Iam clean. From now on I will go to the Gentiles."Mat 10:14 NKJV And whoever will not receive you nor hear yourwords, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust fromyour feet. (Previously Paul & Barnabas Acts 13:50-51)The Jews Stopped Responding
Absorbed in PreachingEze 3:18-21 NKJV When I say to the wicked, You shall surely die, andyou give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wickedway, to save his life, that same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; buthis blood I will require at your hand. (19) Yet, if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, heshall die in his iniquity; but you have delivered your soul. (20) "Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did notgive him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which hehas done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at yourhand. (21) Nevertheless if you warn the righteous man that therighteous should not sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live becausehe took warning; also you will have delivered your soul."The Jews Stopped Responding
Stop Being AfraidAct 18:9-11 NKJV Now the Lord spoke to Paul in the night by a vision,"Do not be afraid, but speak, and do not keep silent; (10) for I am withyou, and no one will attack you to hurt you; for I have many people inthis city." (11) And he continued there a year and six months, teachingthe word of God among them. What are WE afraid of?
