  2. 2. <ul><li>Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man </li></ul><ul><li>  17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal the sick. 18 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus. </li></ul>Luke 5:17-26  ( TNIV )
  3. 3. <ul><li>20 When Jesus saw their faith, he said, &quot;Friend, your sins are forgiven.&quot; </li></ul><ul><li>    21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves, &quot;Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy?   4. 4. <ul><li>22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, &quot;Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.&quot; So he said to the paralyzed man, &quot;I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.&quot; 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God.   5. 5. TAKE HOME <ul><li>I believe that with a little help from my faith-friends, almost anything is possible </li></ul><ul><li>Sins or sickness? No problem I have faith-friends who are there for me. </li></ul><ul><li>The gates of hell (my foes) cannot defeat me and my faith-friends (the church) because the Lord is with us doing awesome things. </li></ul>

  9. 9. THE MAKINGS OF A TRAP Luke 5:17 <ul><li>The word is out: “There’s a teacher/healer in town.” </li></ul><ul><li>The Jury assembles, with ‘guilty’ on their mind </li></ul><ul><li>Take heart! God’s power is flowing strong. </li></ul>Luke 5: 17 One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS Luke 5:18-19 <ul><li>He ain’t heavy, brother. </li></ul><ul><li>Real love doesn’t give up easily. </li></ul>Luke 5:18-19 Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. 19 When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.

Luke 5:20-21 <ul><li>Jesus is impressed by the faith of the man’s friends . </li></ul><ul><li>The foes quickly seize the moment: &quot;Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy?” </li></ul><ul><li>Both groups are demonstrating their faith . </li></ul>Luke 5:20-21 20 When Jesus saw their faith , he said, &quot;Friend, your sins are forgiven.&quot;     21 The Pharisees and the teachers of the law began thinking to themselves , &quot;Who is this fellow who speaks blasphemy? Who can forgive sins but God alone?&quot;
  12. 12. The Faith Of You And Your Friends Determines The Outcome <ul><li>Foes: Jesus knew the thoughts of the Pharisees and teachers of the law! ( v.22) </li></ul><ul><li>Friends: Jesus “saw the faith” (v.20) of the friends who brought paralyzed man </li></ul><ul><li>Faith (thoughts/belief/action) determined out come for each group. </li></ul>Luke 5:22-24 22 Jesus knew what they were thinking and asked, &quot;Why are you thinking these things in your hearts? 23 Which is easier: to say, 'Your sins are forgiven,' or to say, 'Get up and walk'? 24 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.&quot;

FAITH + FRIENDS + JESUS = AMAZING <ul><li>The power of God is unleashed in your life through the faith of your friends (community of believers)! </li></ul><ul><li>Fellowship with nonbelievers can diminish your faith. </li></ul><ul><li>Fellowship with believers brings amazing and awe some results. </li></ul>Luke 5:22-24 25 Immediately he stood up in front of them, took what he had been lying on and went home praising God. 26 Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, &quot;We have seen remarkable things today.&quot;
  14. 14. You Need The Community Of Faith (The Church). These Friends Are An Essential Part Of Your Life In Christ <ul><li>Your Faith-Friends are an Essential Part of your life in Christ </li></ul><ul><ul><li>GOD IS THERE: Matthew 18:20 &quot;For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.&quot; </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>GOD’S POWER IS MANIFEST: Matthew 18:19 &quot;Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.&quot; </li></ul></ul>

When Your Faith-Friends Pray for You Miracles Happen, Insight is Given, Prayers are Answered <ul><li>MIRACLES: Acts 12:4-10 ...But while Peter was in prison, the church prayed very earnestly for him... Suddenly, there was a bright light in the cell, and an angel of the Lord stood before Peter... So Peter left the cell.. </li></ul><ul><li>INSIGHT: Acts 21:4-5 We went ashore, found the local believers, and stayed with them a week. These believers prophesied through the Holy Spirit that Paul should not go on to Jerusalem … the entire congregation , including women and children, left the city and came down to the shore with us. There we knelt, prayed </li></ul>

The Power of the Church is Greater than the Powers of Hell! <ul><li>Matthew 16:18 “Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it .” </li></ul><ul><li>The power of the Church is founded in the Lordship of Jesus (Peter’s good confession). Jesus is Lord! He is your Lord! Within your Community of Faith all things are possible </li></ul>
  17. 17. I believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. I trust him as my Lord and Savior. Hell cannot defeat against us. We are his victorious Church. Confession
  18. 18. Hold communion in your hands until all are served. Then turn to a person next to you and say: I am your faith-friend. I stand with you. Jesus is our Lord! Nothing can stand against us. Together, all things are possible. Eat the bread, exchange the cups, drink. Faith-Friend Pledge
