  1. 1. Denver Chiropractic, Denver Back Pain – Mountain ViewAuthor : Jim KnightChiropractors Methods For Aligning Your SpineWhen medicines can’t help patients with their chronic back problems, chiropractic methods provide them the much needed respite. Chiropractic isa branch of healthcare that specializes in diagnosis, cure and prevention ofmechanical problems in the muscular-skeletal structure of the human body, with special emphasis on the spine. This treatment is imparted throughmany techniques such as massage, exercise, acupuncture and foodsupplements.Chiropractic practitioners firmly believe that disorders of the spine mayaffect the common health of an individual as it obstructs the bodysfunction. Over many years, chiropractic treatments have the record ofbeing one of the most excellent of treatments. It has obtained acceptancebetween medical circuits and healthcare institutes in the US.Chiropractors apply chiropractic adjustment to align the spine. This is oneof the most common treatments used in this field. According to a recentstudy, almost 90% cases that come to chiropractors, are cured through thismethod. What is Chiropractic Adjustment?Chiropractors align the spine through a spinal adjustment where a three-joint complex is taken above the normal range of movements, takingspecial care that the spine is not dislocated or damaged. A sudden jolt isused and attempts are made to increase the spine’s range of motion. It can cause a release which is audible. different methods are applied foraligning the spine such as massage, manipulation, stimulation,
  2. 2. mobilization, etc. Once the spine is unlocked from its incorrect position itcan easily realign itself. However, various sessions are needed before thespine sets absolutely. What Techniques are Applied?Since every situation is unique, chiropractors learn several aligningtechniques. The weight, height and muscle structure of the chiropractorand the patient decide which approach or technique will be essential. Mostcompetent techniques are the one that will align the spine withoutapplication of too much pressure. The chiropractors are trained how tocontain pressure with respect to the patients height, weight, etc.Aligning your Spine the Chiropractic WayThis process of spine alignment is painless. Gentle pressure is applied withminimal force. Patients hardly complain about any kind of uneasiness. Thepopping sounds from your body dont mean something has broken within. These pops are produced due to small pockets of gas. They are equivalentto the cracking of knuckles.Patients who don’t loosen themselves or stay stiff during the therapysometimes think some sorts of discomfort. For this reason, all chiropracticpractitioners advice their patients to stay relaxed and calm during thewhole treatment. Several first-time patients stay stiff and prevent theadjustment; with several sessions they tend to loosen up their body. Withchiropractors who are licensed and trained to practice, one must not worryabout damages. With several alignment treatments, the popping soundswill vanish and your spine will experience normal levels of flexibility.Chiropractic methods for alignment can be used for: • Stiffness and pain in the shoulders, neck, arms, back, chest, hands, hips, abdomen, feet, legs. • Nerve disorders. • Headaches. • Arthritis • Trauma and injuries in the body like whiplash. • Sports injuries like tennis elbow, sprained joints, muscles and ligaments, etc.For more information, please Click Here
  3. 3. R.I.C.E method for sports injury treatmentUnderstanding the practical and theoretical applications of the R.I.C.Emethod for treatment of sports injuries is important for those who engagethemselves in regular sporting activities as well as for those who enjoyadventure sports such as river rafting, rock-climbing, rappelling, etc. Tofully realize the significance of this method, we have to look at itscomponents individually. R.I.C.E stands for rest, ice, compression, andelevation, all of which are combined to provide the best effect. The R.I.C.E method for sports injury treatment isone of the most important forms of first aid whichmust be given to anyone who is suffering from aninjury incurred while participating in some kind ofgame or while jogging, or even while dancing orworking out in the gym. R.I.C.E aims to stabilizethe joints as well as regulate the blood flow, andstops or prevents swelling of the affected area.Rest: In cases of injuries it is important that the damaged parts of thebody should not be subjected to any kind of movement that may worsenthe injury. prompt rest helps in preventing the injured tendons, muscles orligaments from undergoing any unneeded . When the injured parts get themuch needed rest, healing takes place faster.Ice: Ice or cold pack provides relief to the injured areas and also helps inpreventing or at least reducing the swelling. If an ice pack is unavailable, ice wrapped in a napkin or even packs of frozen vegetables work totallyfine. On the other hand, there is one warning while using an ice pack. It isthat an ice pack should be applied for not more than 20 or 25 minutes. Ifcold packs are kept on the skin for a longer of time, it may skin damage. The application of an ice pack is to use it over the injury for 20 minutesand take it off. It may be re-applied after another 15 or 20 minutes.Compression: Compression helps in stabilizing the joints and minimizingthe swelling. Compression must be done through an elastic bandagesecured firmly around the area. However, it is that the bandage fits firmly;it should not be tight as it could exacerbate the injury. If the bandagecauses throbbing after it is wrapped, it indicates that it has been securedtightly and needs to be re-wrapped a little loosely.Elevation: Elevating the injured area helps in reducing the swelling.
  4. 4. Elevate the injured area above the heart level as it reduces the flow ofblood and prevents swelling. In of an injury on the lower extremities of thebody such as the ankle, placing 2 or 3 pillows under it will prevent furtherinflammation. The R.I.C.E method is an effective therapy for sports and other minorinjuries. This must be administered for a couple of days till the injured areahas stabilized. During this time putting any weight on the injured portionsmust be strictly avoided. If the pain and swelling fail to subside, the injurymay be much more severe than it seems to be and it is to seek a doctor’sadvice. For More information, please Click Here
