UTR Mentor Expectations<br />The Urban Teacher Residency (UTR) is a highly selective alternative route to the California Teaching Credential. <br />UTR Mentors are exemplary urban teachers in math or science.<br />UTR Mentors host Residents, preservice teachers, in their classrooms all day, four days a week, for the entire school year.<br />

UTR Mentor Expectations<br />This intensive experience is aimed at the careful preparation of talented teachers who are knowledgeable about and deeply committed to urban children, schools, and communities.<br />Mentors receive yearlong training and support.<br />Mentors make a three-year commitment and receive a $3,000 stipend per Resident, per year.<br />
  4. 4. UTR Mentor Expectations<br />Mentors must be fully credentialed and tenured (if app.) with at least 3 years experience.<br />They are also recommended by their colleagues and administrators and observed in their classrooms.<br />

UTR Mentor Expectations<br />Mentors…<br />Host Residents with patience and grace, initiating positive communication;<br />Conduct at least once weekly meetings to discuss planning, teaching, and Resident progress;<br />Attend monthly Professional Learning Communities;<br />Participate in Professional Development.<br />

Resident Spring Schedule<br />Student Teaching<br />A supervisor is from the university is assigned to each Resident who conducts formal observations are conducted<br />Mentors are expected to conduct 3 formal observations<br />Teaching Event<br />Residents are expected to complete a demanding summative assignment<br />

Resident Spring Schedule<br />Residents complete their credential requirements and look for a job!<br />ALL Cohort I Residents earned the credential and found teaching jobs in the community!<br />Note, though CSUDH semesters finish before LAUSD semesters, Residents are expected to be full participants through to the last day of both LAUSD semesters… <br />
