  1. 1. Components of Robotic arm• End Effector (Gripper, for doing desired operations)• Actuator (Power source i.e. Servo motors)• Controller (Send signals to power source for movements)

Robotic Arm• A mechanical arm is robotic, usually programmable, with similar functions to a human arm.• A typical robotic arm is made up of metal segments, joined by joints.• The computer controls the robot by rotating individual servo motors connected to each joint.• The robot may use motion sensors to make sure it moves just the right amount or direction.

Robotic Arm• Resembles a human arm -- it has the equivalent of a shoulder, an elbow and a wrist(End Effector ).• (e.g. Manipulator arm)• Degrees Of Freedom (rotations that specify the orientation of the body or system).• Modern robotic arms are computer controlled.• It recieves commands from keyboard and perform tasks.
  4. 4. • The robot arms can be automatic or controlled manually and can be used to perform a variety of tasks with great accuracy.• The robotic arm can be fixed or mobile (i.e. wheeled) and can be designed for industrial or home applications.

Servo Motors(Power Source)A Servo is a small device that has an output shaft and workas a power source.Shaft can be positioned to specific angular positions bysending the servo a coded signal.As the coded signal changes, the angular position of theshaft changes.Joints of robotic arm are connected to each servo motor.

  7. 7. Functions of Robotic Arm• The robotic arm can be designed to perform any desired task such as welding, gripping, spraying etc., depending on the application. For example robot arms in automotive assembly line perform a variety of tasks such as wielding and parts rotation and placement during assembly.• Robotic arms are also very important in the computer industry, used to fix tiny microchips.

Functions of Robotic Arms• Used by military , in military operations to perform different tasks.• Used by space centers, e.g. To deploy a payload from the cargo bay of the Space Shuttle (SSRMS).• Robots have become important over a wide range of applications--from manufacturing, to surgery, to the handling of hazardous materials.
  9. 9. Poor eyesight remains one of the mainobstacles to letting robots loose among humans.
  10. 10. • Robotic eye , performs similar function like a human eye.• Could be a part of robot’s body or could perform individually.• Usually Robotic eye contains, light dependant or high resolution video cameras.• A robotic eye usually “sees” or “reads” lots of picture elements, or pixels.
  11. 11. • Used for security purposes e.g. Face recognition• For Scanning bar codes• Used by miltary or spying agencies for Spying
