In recent years there has been a tendency to benchmark IT costs. The main drivers to benchmark are either the ambition to improve or (much more often) dissatisfaction with the IT organization. This feeling can be felt by both the own (new) IT management or the users of the IT organization. ICT managers understand that the discussion of budgets and the quality of service can only be rationalized by presenting facts. Actually it is a pity that dissatisfaction is so often the driving force behind the benchmark. Benchmarking has a lot more to offer.
