Mediahub
Hydrogen’s Sydney office has been working with Mediahub – a purpose built broadcast play-out centre managing
the presentation and transmission of TV content – since their inception. A joint venture between Hydrogen clients
ABC and WIN TV, they were the first major play-out centre of this scale and capability in Australia and approached
Hydrogen to assist with recruiting for their greenfield site. Initially this involved a rapid ramp-up of operations staff,
requiring us to source multiple candidates in a scarcely populated resource market, to tightly defined timeframes. In
addition, the site was less appealing than others as it was located outside of the centre of Sydney.
Initially, our team applied a local headhunting approach and then used our global network of internationally-
mobile candidates to source talent from overseas, all the time working hard to keep salary expectations under
control in the talent scarce environment. Hydrogen successfully fulfilled the brief and to date there have been a
total of 31 permanent and contract placements including Presentation Coordinators, Supervisors and
Technical Operations staff.
Leading provider of mobile and broadband services
Our relationship with this client dates back to 2010 when they launched a series of new media projects to move away
from their traditional telecoms business. They recognised a need to review their list of preferred suppliers and were
aware of Hydrogen’s reputation as a high quality provider of specialist technology experts.
We were selected, along with five other agencies to work on these new projects, providing transformational
technology and business transformation contractors. We were required to develop relationships with all line
managers involved in the projects. Being a relationship-driven company, this approach played to our strengths and
the team immediately began to map-out and network the project teams, investing time to understand the culture
and requirements of each. Subsequently, we quickly started placing Test Analysts and Managers. Our high levels
of service and delivery resulted in referrals to other line managers and we are now one of our client’s key suppliers,
sourcing exceptional technology experts for both contract and permanent vacancies. We have continued to achieve
notable successes including the supply of resource for their largest project in the last five years.
Global satellite broadcasting and broadband services company
During 2009 our relationship with this client strengthened significantly when we became one of their key
suppliers. In 2010, they launched a project to streamline their online help services and sales capabilities and
selected Hydrogen, along with two other suppliers, to source and provide the specialist talent required to
land the project. We proved our capabilities through the successful delivery of a high volume of exceptional
candidates including Developers, Testers, Project Managers and Programme Managers.
Subsequently, our client approached us to work with one of their broadcasting companies on two major projects,
for which they required a high volume of Developers and Testers. Again, we proved our capabilities in this area by
placing over 50 contractors in short time frames. To date we have worked on several flagship projects and new
releases, including one requiring contractors to work between the UK and Abu Dhabi, and are one of our client’s
top suppliers across technology for both contract and permanent roles.
Major global logistics company
We’ve worked with this Denmark-based multi-national client as a top-tier preferred supplier since 2010 and have
placed many of their most difficult roles. In 2011 they required a large number of contractors, which they were unable
to source locally, to work on a global finance and business integration project. The brief covered roles based in the
Benelux region, Denmark, Germany and London, and Hydrogen were amongst the agencies selected. Unusually, given
the geographic spread of the placements, all roles were required to be English-speakers.
Hydrogen’s ability to headhunt passive candidates meant we quickly identified globally-mobile professionals for
many roles, from Senior Architecture and Programme Managers, through to niche SAP experts, meeting the SLA of
providing three CVs for each role within three days. Ultimately we were able to make 21 placements, with an
Interview : Placement ratio of 3 : 1, including candidates who moved from Canada and the UK to Copenhagen, from
Vienna to London and, in one extraordinary case, a Hungarian national who moved back from Australia to work
remotely from Budapest. Several candidates in permanent roles were headhunted to take up contract roles. All
placements saw out the end of their contracts, with many achieving one or more contract extensions.
