  2. 2. Denial• Blocking out a fact mentally because it is too painful too accept
  3. 3. displacement• Taking out one’s feelings or frustrations on someone or something other than that created those feelings
  4. 4. projection• The misattribution of one’s undesired thoughts, onto a person who does not have those thoughts
  5. 5. rationalization• Justifying one’s act by providing a ‘good” reason for doing it.
  6. 6. Reaction formation• Converting of irrational thoughts into their positive opposites
  7. 7. regression• A reversion to an earlier stage of development in the face of unwanted fears or thoughts.
  8. 8. repression• Burying a bad thought or fear in one’s mind that can be brought out in symboloic form
  9. 9. sublimation• Redirecting unacceptable drives into acceptable channels
