Graduation High School Recorded Music Program
I know how much of a cliche it is to begin this essay with the same, "I knew I wanted to be music
ever since I was a little girl", line in which you've probably heard over a thousand times, but I can
honestly say that music has been the only passion I have continuously stuck by. I began writing
songs when I was nine years old and I knew then that this was something I wanted to pursue.
Therefore, when I heard there was an opportunity for me to participate in a program that allowed me
to learn and practice not only music production, but the music industry itself, I couldn't help not to
apply. I think I could fit in well to the Tisch Summer High School Recorded Music Program because
of my experience in collaborative environments, creating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Setting deadlines, organizing materials, and making sure everyone did their part was my main role.
Although I was in–charge of the group, I made sure to include the creative input from all members.
For example, the group, as a whole, decided on the materials and how to put the body system
together. My experience with the Frankenstein project allowed me to understand the importance of
group cooperation and communication. I learned in order to have a productive group you need to be
willing to compromise and take others perspectives into consideration. Part of what makes group
projects great are the multiple perspectives and ideas that are available, so it is necessary to take
advantage of all of them. Another important aspect is communication. Whether it's over emails or
text messages, knowing what is going on and when it is going on is key.
Within this experience I also learned about what I can contribute into other collaborative
environments. As a person I tend to be very easy–going and can get along with most everyone. I find
it easy to contribute ideas whilst taking others into consideration. In school, I take part in multiple
team/group work environments such as my school's soccer team and the student government. Both
of which have helped me further my understanding of how to work as a whole. I liked to be pushed
in new directions and was am willing to try new things, which I believe is a very important factor

  • 9. Program Music: Richard Strauss's "Don Quixote" Before the Romantic musical age, composers wrote music for the purpose of arranging sounds into the most beautiful way possible. Because of these goals, they followed some very specific ideas and wouldn't stray from them. Once the Romantic era hit, composers wanted to express a variety of things in their music. This is when the idea of program music appeared. Program music is usually instrumental music without spoken or sung words to explain the story or event that the composer has chosen to describe with his or her music. However, program music relies on a few non–musical things to make sure that the listener is interpreting the correct story. These things are often the title of the piece, a written forward and many times notes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Don gets tired of Sancho's interruptions when his theme is loudly played. Don and Sancho run into a band of wandering pilgrims. Unfortunately, Don believes they are a great force of villains, so he attacks them. Because he is gravely outnumbered, they easily defeat him and he almost doesn't revive from this attack. When he finally revives, a relieved Sancho falls asleep next to him. The band of pilgrims is portrayed by almost stately processional music, but once again Don's defeat is depicted by a sudden single loud note in the bass voices. After this, his and Sancho's sleep is shown by a peaceful recitations of there themes. In the next section, Don stays awake keeping a vigil over his arms and dreams about his ideal woman Dulcinea. This section mainly is comprised of a mixture of Don and Dulcinea's themes. After this dream, a peasant girl happens upon the hero and Sancho convinces Don that this girl is really Dulcinea, but she has been put under a spell by a wizard. This is portrayed by a simple, happy variation of Dulcinea's theme. At this point, a duke and a duchess find them and have malicious fun with Don and Sancho; they manage to trick our hero and his squire into believing they are traveling through the air on a flying horse. After a bit, Don and Sancho come to the sad realization that they never actually left the ground. Their imaginary flight is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Music Programs In Schools Music programs are not in all schools. (What percentages of schools have music programs?) Music can help students in so many aspects of life, but schools aren't investing in the music program. (How much on average is a music program cost?) All high schools need to have elective music programs in order to see benefit their grade averages, to create career preparation, to build teamwork skills, and to boost student participation in school. Schools are so focused on grade improvement and getting better scores on state mandated tests each year that they are not taking the time to think about the benefit that music programs could achieve in this aspect. It has been proven that music students score higher on standardized tests than non–music students. (What percentage?) (Where else, how else do we see grade improvement?) (What is the average scores received?) Because of higher grades and classes offered in a music program, students become more prepared to start a career. Music students become passionate ... If one is not correct in the timing, all will fall apart and phasing or ripples will happen. This will cause things to sound or look horrendous. If someone is off pitch, it will be noticed, and the audience will not enjoy that performance. (What more can I say about friendship?) There are also many team building exercises that are done when training in order for a successful show. In marching band when the drum majors are selected, they are sent to a camp for a week where they learn different activities that can be done with their classmates to build that sense of teamwork even more. • 17. The Music And Arts Program On Monday, April 18, 2016, I observed a School Board Meeting at Chenango Valley School District at 7:00 PM. The room was congested with a numerous amount of people that varied in age. The board members that were present were: Mr. David P. Gill, Superintendent, Mrs. Elizabeth Dicosimo, Assistant Superintendent, Mr. Stuart Elliott, President, Mr. Joel Luchun, Vice–President, Mr. Jason Aurelio, Mr. Steve Carr, Mr. John P. Hussar, Mrs. Christine Lomonaco, Mrs. Michelle Porterfield Wilson, Mrs. Kelly Warwick, Mrs. Susan Cirba, District Clerk, and Mrs. Elizabeth Donahue, Business Executive. The main topics that were discussed were the music and arts program being cut in half, updated information on the school districts from principals, and the French Exchange Program. During my observation, I noticed that the board members were not very responsive. At first, the environment was very uncomfortable and the meeting felt very unorganized. As the meeting continued and others took over, the meeting became friendlier and more welcoming. When the public was speaking on behalf of the music program at the school, the board members were not allowed to respond to what was being addressed. • 21. The Importance of Funding Music and Art Programs for Young... Much too often in America today, modern music and art programs in schools are perceived to many as extracurricular activities rather than important subjects that are vital to a students learning and skill development. The truth of the matter is that encouraging music and art education in public schools has a much larger impact on student's grades, academic performance, and the economy than the majority people realize. Within the next year city school budgets will be dropping by twenty five percent, and despite the fact that music and art programs have been showing a dramatic contribution to student's learning, this substantial drop in funding for the programs will lead to no dedicated money for art or music programs (Mezzacappa). There is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school attendance" ("11 Facts about Arts in Education"). Music and art are clearly not two subjects that schools today can afford to cut off funding for based on this evidence. Music and art programs are responsible for increasing school attendance, which can lead to being one of the most important things in a student's academic success in school. Students have to attend school and be present in order to attain the information from their classes and teachers if they wish to succeed. Better attendance means more students are in class, which means more students are getting the information they need to excel from their teachers, which ultimately means better grades and test scores for schools. As of today, arts are defined as core subjects in only twenty–six states in America (Mandel). If only twenty–six states are treating art education as a core subject, that means that twenty–four states are currently neglecting art programs and not considering them important to their student's education. If more states are educated on the importance of art programs for young students, and the arts are defined as core subjects nationally, then there will be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. School Music Programs Playing music has always been a passion of mine. Growing up in the Bellevue School District I was fortunate enough to have exposure to excellent music programs. I began playing clarinet in fifth grade, and in middle school I transitioned to saxophone. Having that hour every day to decompress and focus on music in school was something I always valued. Later, in high school, I took basic and advanced guitar classes. It was about that time that I truly became a passionate musician. Although I do not play saxophone very much these days, I play more than enough guitar to make up for it. • 29. Persuasive Speech : Music Programs Should Be Kept Public... Specific Purpose: To persuade my audience that music programs should be kept in public schools. Central Idea: The government should not cut music programs in public schools because they are beneficial to children, not only to their education, but also helps express themselves. Introduction I. Plato, a Greek philosopher once said "I would teach children music, physics, and philosophy; but most importantly music, for the patterns in music and all the arts are the keys to learning." A. These words by Plato are what makes music programs important and beneficial to a child's education. B. However, during these tough economic times, music educators have to face the fight of budget cuts to keep their music programs in public schools. II. Without music programs, children will not succeed in school, nor will they be able to express themselves in society. III. After doing research for this speech, I hope to persuade each of you to let the government know that they can't cut music programs in public schools. (Transition: Let's start by looking at the causes of why music programs get cut in public schools.) Body I. School district decision makers make standardized tests their highest priority for students. A. • 33. Scholarship Application for a Music Program Essay Music is one of the most fascinating aspects of a civilization, and yet it's importance is often overlooked by many in today's world. The existence of music dates well beyond any known civilization, and its gradual evolution drastically varies from culture to culture. To me, the notion that music is a mere reflection of society is a statement I used to take for granted. Although this notion is true to some degree, mainly with some popular music, my research has led me to conclude that all music influences society on a greater scale than one would assume. In ancient times, there existed many correlations between changes in music followed by changes in society. These range from the ushering of new eras of prosperity, to the conservation of ... I moved on my own to a rural area in Washington State in an effort to live a more peaceful and self– sufficient life, and pursue new experiences. Once I moved, my taste in music gradually became more refined. I began to seriously practice the classical guitar and composed for it as well. Since then, I also started experimenting with binaural beats and have used them extensively in meditation and other disciplines. This led me to research the effects of particular frequencies exerted on the brain, and how they could easily be used to induce different brainwave frequency states. I discovered how playing music helps to create a lot of new neural networks, increase the bridge between the two brain hemispheres (corpus callosum) and develop higher levels of perception. But the rabbit hole was deeper than I thought. I read books on the influence of music on society throughout the ages. Each specific type of music has produced an effect on history, morals and culture. I found examples of drastic changes in music that led to drastic changes in civilization. Different styles of music within a society led to different coexisting ideals. Sometimes new popular music led to a social revolution. In places like ancient China, where music varied very little, traditions were maintained for thousands of years. The Chinese themselves believed it was because of the preservation of ... Whether you are three years old or ninety years old, whether you are a democrat or a republican, or whether you are from North America or Africa, everyone finds joy and comfort in music. Music plays such an immense role in the day to day lives of people all around the world. So, why is the funding for music programs all around the country being slashed? The debate over whether music programs in schools benefit or hinder children's overall academic achievements. Proponents of the funding cuts argue that it simply costs too much money to sustain these music programs with all the instruments and sheet music they require, and that they are a distraction from the "more important" academic classes. On the other hand, opponents argue that providing kids with an education in music improves brain activity which in turn allows them to actually excel in other subject areas. While it is true that music can be distracting in some cases, it is extremely important to fund music programs in schools to give students the best academic opportunities possible. Proponents of funding cuts have very real and valid concerns for the education of children. People who support fund cuts for music programs often argue that they are not against music education, but that sometimes it just comes down to either cutting music classes or math and English classes, and math and English are just simply more important. The Effects Of Music Programs On Students The Knowledge of reading music, and playing an instrument has proven to be beneficial to the learning curb in students including those of little to no background in a literary education to students in college. However, there are schools in America where music isn't offered. Having a music program could create improved grades, memory, concentration, and quicken the learning process of literacy, but it is believed that music isn't for everybody. Many parents and administrators believe that music is just a waste of time and doesn 't help a student academically. It has been stated and shown in media of all sorts that music doesn't help kids academically and is only a distraction with potentially harmful effects. For example, in John McDaniel's words on the negative effects of music in school,: "Music programs in school can promote competition and rivalry among peers. In most music programs, students compete for certain positions and chairs, and they must practice and oust their peers in order to climb the ranks in the section. This can lead to bad feelings and competitive values among young children, which can be harmful to their future development." It is understood why this has been stressed against music in schools. However, it is faulty. Other beliefs are that it does more harm than good because "it affects grades negatively". • 49. Should Music Programs Be Mandatory Essay I believe that music programs should be mandatory in high school. I say this for a number of reasons, not all of them relating to music. Music programs can do so much more for a student than allow them to learn to read music or play an instrument; music programs teach the student life skills. Again, music programs should be mandatory in high school. To begin with, music programs are not normal classes. What other class requires the complete integration of every student? What other class encourages healthy competition? What other class has a teacher who is required to have such patience? Music programs allow students to learn skills not taught in other classes. They allow straight "A" students who have problems connecting with other people to amend that. They allow failing students to learn the merits of trying harder. Any student who is in a music program has to think about who takes the hit for an error or lack of motivation on their part. This kind of thinking applies to the real world more than a good or bad grade does, as not being the best student or person you can be puts weight on others as well as hindering your success. Secondly, music stimulates parts of the brain and body ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As I've shown, studies conducted on the subject indicate that music programs universally raise academic ability. At first, volunteering was simply a way for me to fulfill a community service requirement for school. The time I dedicated was so enjoyable that I continued to volunteer after my requirements were complete. Just playing bass on my own for a couple hours would have been incredibly difficult and likely not as enjoyable to the audience. Therefore, I devised a music outreach program to connect the elderly and student music communities. I presented my plan to the head of administration at Greenspring as well as the heads of local schools' Guitar, Orchestra, and Band departments. Next, I approached the student music organizations such as the Tri–M music honor society to solicit students for my program. Students of all backgrounds, disciplines, and passions then signed up and performed to fulfill their service requirements. While many initially volunteered for the same reasons as I did, many students became regulars within the program. Interacting with widely differing communities of musicians and elders bestowed upon me a crucial component of leadership: adaptability. I welcomed all residents, introduced each student, and the purpose of my program. To this day my fellow musicians and I perform special music exhibitions for the residents a few times a year. Although the program did not improve the children's skill of teamwork and self–discipline it shows educators and parents their child's view in their eyes. • 61. Music Programs Should be Kept in Schools Essay All school districts should retain music programs in their schools. Probably the most well–known supposed benefit of involvement in a music program is the Mozart Effect. The Mozart Effect claims that "performance on tasks of spatiotemporal reasoning may be improved for ten–fifteen minutes immediately after listening to part of a Mozart piano sonata or similarly complex music" (Črnčec, Wilson, and Prior, 580). While the Mozart Effect has little to back it, there are still many reasons music and other fine arts belong in schools. Spatiotemporal reasoning is related to activities involving space and time such as memory, mental rotation and visualization. However, studies have proven that benefits are inconclusive. Many studies such as one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such theory involves private music instruction (Črnčec, Wilson, and Prior 582). One on one private lessons can promote the life–long need to learn. Music training started at an early age can improve the brain's ability to process different tones and patterns. This can benefit a person later in life when he or she is trying to focus in a room full of background noise. Ear–training, "the ability to discern subtleties in pitch and timing," ("Hearing the Music" par. 4) increases aptitude in children and adults when trying to learn a new language. Musicians are better able to pick out these changing subtleties in speech and tones than non–musicians. This skill, when applied to the learning disabled, improves speech comprehension ("Hearing the Music" par. 4). A 2003 study indicates that two years of music lessons can improve performance on arithmetic tests (Rauscher and LeMieux qtd. in Črnčec, Wilson, and Prior 583). In fact, music lessons can boost IQ levels simply because they provide a learning opportunity. The most widely cited neuro–scientific theory is one done by Leng and Shaw in 1991 which states: Music resonates with inherent neuronal firing patterns throughout the brain; thus, music listening and music instruction can prime the brain for improved performance on spatiotemporal and other cognitive tasks. • 69. Disney 's The Pastoral Symphony Disney 's Fantasia (1940) lies in a class separate from all other animations of program music. While its initial reception was less than stellar, it has since become a standard film in home collections. Theatrical performances, games, and many other derivatives of the brand now exist. Despite this, it has also generated a fair amount of controversy. For example, it contains scenes that allude to Darwin's theory of evolution, and others that display negative racial stereotypes. Yet the most controversial scene at the movie's premiere was the animation of Beethoven 's Sixth, the Pastoral Symphony. This feature upset many classical music lovers who objected to the idea of giving Beethoven's symphony an explicit storyline and a set of images that he did not have in mind. The Pastoral Symphony is likely the most familiar example of program music, but most musicians and critics seem to agree that this does not give a free pass to any form of interpretation. In the intro to Fantasia, the narrator addresses this by cautioning the listener that the video clips were created based on the musical interpretations of animators, not of trained musicians. From that cautionary message to articles published as recently as this year, Fantasia remains a topic of controversy, influenced by factors such as audience familiarity and general views on Beethoven himself. I asked him four questions regarding the environment in which he was raised in, what the music education program was like there, how he would describe his own identity, and the outside influences that shaped his identity. This is significant to me because I think it is important to always get new and unique perspectives on your own ideas. It is imperative that researchers see multiple point of views so that they can create an accurate representation of what they are studying and what they want to accomplish. By simply looking at one's own experience is to only see one side of the argument. I want to make sure that I am not being as biased as possible. I believe that everyone should try to keep an open mind to everything that they learn and everything that they take a stance on. If you only look at one side of the argument, then you will never truly learn and grow. I also wanted to ask someone of color just like me because I feel like people of color bring unique perspectives on key topics especially to one pertaining to multiculturalism and music. • 93. Analysis Of Les Prludes S. 97 Les Préludes S.97 by Franz Liszt (October 22, 1811–July 31, 1886) is the third of his thirteen symphonic poems. The premiere took place at the Weimar Hoftheater on 23 February, 1854 under the baton of Liszt for a benefit concert. The instrumentation consists in three flutes (third also piccolo), two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, four horns, two trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, snare drum, cymbals, bass drum, harp and strings. The year 1847 was the year where Liszt was moving to Weimar to begin a new stage in his musical life, he took the decision to finish his career as a pianist and begin to dedicate to the composition, besides, he met the Polish Princess Carolyne zu Sayn–Wittgenstein, that she impulse his career as a composer. He found the necessity to evolve the music, and the way that he found was combining music with literature. In this essay I will discuss how Les Préludes evolve the symphonic genre. Mark Evans Bonds in "Absolute Music" discusses Liszt´s "Program" music. According with Bonds, Liszt in his "Harold" essay, he distinguishes between "¬¬specifically musical composer" and the composer driven by an overarching poetic image or narrative. In program music, the recurrence, variation, alteration, and modulation of motifs are determined by their relationship to a poetic idea. Liszt used the new term to identify a repertory of instrumental music which through an evocative title, a verbal program, or both, "draws the listener´s attention in advance toward a specific object". Bonds analyses the opinion of Liszt in his program music, how he tried to convince that program music is the next step in music evolve, the necessity of break form rules to adequate the music into literature (in the case of Liszt) and the fact that he was reinforcing the first ideas of combining music with other arts, like Berlioz in his "Symphonie Fantastique". Liszt proclaim himself as a Beethoven ´s successor, he felt that he had the necessity to create something new, as we know, the Weimar period of Liszt was dedicated to him as a composer, leaving aside the achievements of other composers like Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. He looked that form and harmony were like a formula after Beethoven, because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 101. Music Programs In High Schools Essay Music plays an important role in a student's academic success. Being a part of a music organization gives students a place to belong and a place where they can express themselves. It gives students the drive to do well in school, helps build social skills through teamwork, and improves their focus level. In every school, there are students who do not like their core subject classes. I have several in my choir program and the only reason they get out of bed to come to school in the morning is so they can be in choir. Harris Interactive did a study in 2006 over graduation rates and they found that high schools with a music program had a graduation rate of 90% or greater. The national average graduation rate of those high schools that do not have a music program is 73% (Zuckerman 3). I believe the schools that have music programs have a higher graduation rate because students have a motivation to pass. As with other extracurricular activities, choir students have to pass their classes in order to sing or participate. I pay very close attention to my students' grades as they influence whether or not they can participate in activities such as UIL Concert and Sight Reading. While a student may not like math, they are willing to work hard to get their grades up so they can participate in UIL or go on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The program is during the summer and you meet new teachers, learn new classical pieces, and make friends who are also musicians. It was my third year attending this program. I found that each year my skills improve dramatically after the summer, and each summer I make new friends. Musicians in the program are placed in a large group based on their level of musical ability and the type of instrument they play, for example a student who plays a string instrument at a beginner level will be placed with other students who are at the same level and play a string instrument. Each year at the end of the summer we are in many performances. Last year when I was in advanced woodwind ensemble, we had performance at a summer music festival. • 109. A Very Brief Biography of Bethoven {Quote about Beethoven} According to musicologist Berry Cooper, Beethoven was born on December 16, 1770 in Bonn, Germany, where his father was the Kapellmeister. His father, Johann, was a respected tenor, violinist, and teacher of both the clavier and the piano. Although Beethoven is not considered a child prodigy, Beethoven did start music at an early age. Around age three, he would often sit on his father's lap and play has his father sang, and abandon his playmates to listen to his father perform. Some historians believe that he started taking formal piano lessons at age five, a normal age to start training in piano, from his father. Between the mix of Beethoven natural talent and his father's pedagogical experience, Beethoven excelled quickly as a piano and violin player. It was said that Beethoven's father was so intent on Beethoven's lessons, that he would often bring Beethoven to tears. When he was seven, he made his public debut in Cologne, with two other of his father's students, where he astounded the audience by the difficulty of music that was played.1 By 1779, his father could no longer teach the young composer and searched for other teachers. After going through many teachers Beethoven found Christian Gottlob Neefe who was the first to allow him to compose. In 1782, his first recorded work was a set of variations on a march by Ernst Christoph Dressler. This was then arranged by Neefe and published. This work, even from such an early age showed many ... Review of The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, conducted by Bernard Haitink in 2009 The Symphony No. 6 in F major, Op. 68 was composed by Beethoven and was completed in 1808. It is also referred to as "Pastoral Symphony." In 2009, Bernard Haitink conducted the performance of the symphony by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. From Haitink's concert on Beethoven's sixth symphony, I was expecting to see the original work of composer. Programmatic symphonies occurred primarily in the late– Romantic and Classical period. The repetition of the different subjects is a feature is a programmatic symphony and, therefore, a romantic trait. For example, the 'bird calls' produced by the strings in bar 151 are programmatic. Haitink's traversal of the 'Pastoral' is a fine achievement, established on tempi that strike the viewers. On the first movement, he takes it at a flowing, warm tempo. The Orchestra plays radiantly for him. The played symphony has a nice, firm bass line, revealingly enriched at intervals by the horns, and its attention to dynamics is meticulous throughout the whole symphony. The first movement ends in such a way that, the symphony can be heard as a wonderfully civilized and wise account of the performance. The second movement is designed beautifully. Once again the tempo is skillfully chosen. The woodwinds and the strings afford Haitink some fine playing and there are several lovely woodwind solos for the audience to enjoy. The third movement is lithe and light – this is a joyful and well–sprung dance. The subsequent storm is exciting, featuring some thrilling strikes on the timpani. The finale brings an excellent summary of the performance. In Haitink's experienced hands, the symphony is serene, displaying an inner radiance and warmth. The style is demonstrative and completely natural. The pacing is perfect and the playing is glowing. Even though Haitink shapes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These programs provide the students opportunities to play instruments and sing during the school day. Music programs are usually the first thing to go when schools have to do a budget cut. Some people believe that there are too many negatives aspects of music programs, while others believe it is a great addition to schools. So people need to decide whether or not music programs saved or not allowed at all. In your article, you state four reasons why music programs should not be allowed in schools. The article states that music programs are a big budget concern for schools. There are many costs that go into music programs which include paying for required instruments, space for practices, concerts, extra music faculty and instructors. The school is not the only place affected by these costs, parents have to spend a great deal of money too. The parents of the students need to pay for their child's instruments, or lessons. Another point brought up in the article is that it distracts students from their academics. Music programs will take the students attention away from more important subjects like math and English. The lack of appreciation of the music and arts programs throughout America is astonishing, and heartbreaking to many of the students, parents, and staff that are involved with them. There are more than a few causes that can be held responsible, however the main three are a lack of funding, lack of support from administration and staff, and the lack of equal support amongst students involved in different activities, such as sports, clubs, and music programs, all of which have led to a decrease in student participation in music. However, there may be a solution in sight, with the help of some creative thinking on the part of the administration, the support of the staff members, and the acknowledgment of the student body. There are many benefits to music. It's a way for students to express themselves, create bonds, learn life skills, and improve their minds.
