Cannabidiol (CBD) May Inhibit Brain Cancer
According to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), roughly 80,000 new cases of primary
brain tumors are expected to be diagnosed in 2017, including more than 26,000 primary malignant
and 53,000 non–malignant brain tumors. Source http://www.abta.org/about–us/news/brain–tumor–

properties, and particular emphasis placed on cannabidiol (CBD), a non–psychoactive cannabinoid
compound and its in vitro antiproliferative ability on human glioma cell lines. Recently, a study

CBD Inhibits Human Glioma Cell Migration
The inhibition of endothelial cell migration has been recorded in studies of CBD and angiogenesis,
and so, it makes sense that researchers would take it a step further and examine cell migration in
brain cancer. In a 2005 study, published in the British Journal of Pharmacology, researchers
examined the ability of cannabidiol (CBD) to impair the migration of U87 glioma cells stimulated
by conditioned medium. The results indicated that CBD halved tumor cell migration in vitro, but
was not mediated by the typical cannabinoid receptors, which the researchers speculate might be
due to an interaction with a similar type of receptor showing inverse agonist properties. Source

CBD Offsets THC to Inhibit Glioblastoma Cell Proliferation and Survival
It has been suggested in numerous studies that CBD can counteract the effects of THC and exert its
healing properties, but it has also been demonstrated that CBD can enhance the effects of THC.
"Molecular Cancer Therapeutics," in 2010, published an article in which researchers made the case
that CBD enhances the inhibitory effects of THC on human glioblastoma cell growth and survival.
Researchers evaluated cannabidiol in combination with THC in the U251 and SF126 glioblastoma
cell lines, and discovered that

Working With What They Know Many things that were thought to be dangerous in the past are now
things that are seen or used everyday. One of these things was tomatoes. Tomatoes were once
thought to be very deadly. People avoided them at all cost because they thought these fruits could
kill you. These people believed that tomatoes were poisonous for many years. After eliminating
tomatoes from their diets, it was observed that people were still being killed by what people thought
they were not ingesting. After this conclusion, people decided to investigate these common plants
further. It was discovered that the tomato itself was not poisonous, but the cutlery that was used by
the people was. Instead of being poisoned by a fruit, they were being ... Show more content on

Many of the arguments that are opposed to medical marijuana consist of ill–advised comments that
have not been properly researched. One objection is that tetrahydrocannabinol, a chemical found in
marijuana, is the chemical that makes people 'high'. It is true that this chemical has some unwanted
side effects, however, cannabidiol does not (Abuse). With the research people have done,
cannabidiol is even known to do more than tetrahydrocannabinol can. Another concern that has been
brought to light is that certain patients undergoing medical marijuana treatments could have dealt
with an addiction problem in the past and therefore take advantage of the medication given to them.
To counter this argument, most of the hospitals in the states that have approved medical marijuana
as a reliable treatment, issue patient identification to each patient (Marijuana). Medical Marijuana
may also be used to treat patients that struggle with former addictions. Many people also argue that
there are many other different treatments for pain, nausea, and vomiting. This is true, however, with
the proper research, marijuana could be used as a potential cure for cancer as well

Cannabidiol Benefits
In recent years, cannabidiol (CBD) has garnered much interest among physicians, scientists, and in
the medical marijuana market, as more knowledge is gained about its potential medicinal benefits.
CBD oil from either the cannabis plants hemp or marijuana has been shown to have a wide range of
medicinal benefits, and as such more and more research are emerging to support it medicinal or
therapeutic application. Studies have shown that CBD could potentially be useful in treating cancer,
diabetes, anxiety, depression, seizure disorders, asthma, and chronic pain, among other conditions.
The role that CBD could play as a possible alternative medicinal appears to be numerous, but
knowing how CBD works to exert the effects it does is worthwhile. ... Show more content on

To directly activate the 5–HT1A (hydroxytryptamine) serotonin receptor and confer an anti–
depressant effect, CBD must be administered in high concentrations. The 5–HT1A receptor is found
in the central nervous system and CBD activates an inhibitory response that slows down 5–HT1A
signaling, reducing serotonin production, thereby, causing a positive effect on biological and
neurological processes such as addiction, anxiety, sleepy, and pain perception. Source

Why Marijuana Should Be Legal
Many people are pushing their state's legislature to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana to
persons over the age of 21. While many people believe marijuana is medically beneficial when used
properly, just as many people disagree with this belief. The purpose of this paper is to give the facts
supporting both sides of this proposal. Cannabidiol (CBD), and tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC) are the
two main active chemicals found in marijuana that have positive medical benefits.
Tetrahydrocannabidiol causes pain relief, and cannabidiol seems to impact the brain without a high.
Marijuana when smoked can be used to treat the progression of some health conditions, such as
glaucoma. According to the National Eye Institute studies in the 70's showed that smoking
marijuana reduced intraocular pressure in both healthy eyes and the eyes of a person suffering from
glaucoma. In 2012 a similar study was published in the journal of the "American Medical
Association" about marijuana. The study stated that marijuana does not impair lung function and can
even increase lung capacity. In epileptics, marijuana has been proven to help control, or even
temporarily stop the seizures all together. A study was conducted by "Robert J. Delorenzo" of
Virginia Commonwealth University in which he administered marijuana extract, as well as synthetic
THC to epileptic rats. The rats went without having a seizure for ten straight hours. The results of

Persuasive Essay On Medical Marijuana
In the realm of medical marijuana, there are different cannabis extracts, each being touted as having
specific medicinal properties and capable of treating one disease or another. Numerous products
flood the medical marijuana market, and all are not one and the same. Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is
quite popular these days for its many proven and potential medicinal benefits. However, another oil,
the Rick Simpson Oil (RSO) has garnered attention for it supposed benefits in treating cancer, in
particular. Cannabis plants are complex in nature, and cannabis extracts, marijuana oil, CBD oil, or
hemp oil are themselves unique products. These products all have different cannabinoids and at
varying levels. What makes CBD oil and RSO different if both are derived from cannabis?
Who is Rick Simpson?
Rick Simpson is known as the the creator of the Rick Simpson Oil (RSO), but he is also a man who
seemingly has a goal to share what he believes is the healing power of cannabis, referencing his own
success using his self–made oil to treat his cancer–related ailment. His seemingly miraculous
recovery from using the RSO and his championing of his product, encouraged others to try it for
themselves. Several anecdotal stories of persons trying RSO with success has emerged, and the oil
has been used to treat various conditions, including asthma, skin burns, psoriasis, and depression
have reported staggering anecdotal results. Source http://buyricksimpsonoil.com/

Cannabidiol Research Paper
The cannabinoid cannabidiol, or CBD as it is often called, has gradually become more popular as an
increasing number of studies are pointing to the medicinal benefits of the cannabis compound in
treating a variety of ailments. Cannabidiol is a non–psychoactive compound that does not cause a
high, as is common with cannabis compound tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Conventional medicine
is generally limited in providing 100% protection, amelioration, or cure in the treatment of a disease.
Cannabis provides an alternative treatment option where medicines have failed in effectively
treating diseases such as cerebral malaria. Studies have demonstrated that CBD has a
neuroprotective effect and could prevent the development of neurological symptoms associated ...

Should Marijuana Be Legalized?
The suggestions and information presented is intended for every day American voters between the
ages, with families that may have psychological or physical sicknesses or diseases. Its' purpose is to
hopefully bring a new light and possible understanding to the benefits of marijuana.
Problem Statement
A large social issue that is in huge debate today on the status that marijuana should stand on. There
is a lot of valid scientific information that states marijuana to be completely harmless, but even then
society labels it as a "bad drug". Recent studies have said that marijuana is harmless, and even
helpful for patients suffering from the process of chemotherapy and other illnesses that are currently
being treated by man–made prescription drugs. It is important for people at this point in time, to
recognize the positive effects that can come from the use of marijuana.
A little background on marijuana. A more technical term for it is cannabis, and what is cannabis
exactly? The American Cancer Society 2015 states that cannabis comes from the plant, which grows
wild or can be grown in almost any kind of climate. There are different kind of strains and types of
the plant, the indica cannabis, is the kind that gives the user a mellow, relaxed and hungry feeling. A
sativa strain, is the one that many claim to get an uplifting and energetic feeling. There is one main
ingredient, which is THC (delta–9 tetra hydro–cannabinol) which is the part of the plant that gives a

Medicinal Validity of Cannabis
Cannabis, commonly known as marijuana, is a hemp plant that originated from Asia. At first sight of
the plant it looks quite bizarre and unusual. Cannabis can grow up to twenty feet tall with at least
five leaflets that have sharp teeth like edges. Although the leaflets make the plant appear
unappealing, the flower gives off a different message with its vibrant colors, ranging from light
green to dark purple. Before any part of the cannabis can be absorbed into the human body it must
first go through a process called "curing." Curing is the process of drying out the leaves and flowers
of the plant. Once absorbed into the body, you get a sudden feeling of relaxation and happiness,
medically known as euphoria. The use of cannabis has been ... Show more content on

"Marijuana contains more than 460 active chemicals and over 60 unique cannabinoids" (Seamon et
al. 1037–1044). Cannabinoids are the chemical compounds within the cannabis such as, THC
(delta–9 tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). These two chemical compounds are
responsible for more the majority of the active effects of marijuana. THC is more active in cannabis
than CBD; it is responsible for the antiemetic affects and pain relief. THC is also the reason you get
that "high" feeling that comes after digesting the cannabis.
The last five years have shown a remarkable increase in publications on cannabidiol mainly
stimulated by the discovery of its anti–inflammatory, anti–oxidative and neuroprotective effects.
These studies have suggested a wide range of possible therapeutic effects of cannabidiol on several
conditions, including Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease, cerebral ischemia, diabetes,
rheumatoid arthritis, other inflammatory diseases, nausea and cancer (Zuardi).
Although users do not know how it works once in your body the cannabis is for anyone diagnosed
with those illnesses or pains to anyone in those legalized (medical cannabis) states. Although
cannabis does not compare to the harm of tobacco smoke, it still has some harms such as acquiring
wheezing, coughing and bronchitis. But with a small transition of eating it or using a vaporizer, you
eliminate all those undesired health risks. A vaporizer gives you all the vapor of the

Argumentative Essay On Legalization Of Marijuana
My standpoint upon this debate is that I am FOR the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana used
recreationally has many hesitant about legalization but the stance of the medical benefits cannot be
ignored. There are negative effects that result from someone who may not need marijuana, for
instance when marijuana is abused a person can develop a dependency and mess with one's
emotions and memory. Everything has its flaws and just like most products, it is all perfect in
moderation and for purpose. Scientists have Marijuana comprised of two major compounds with
include delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). The active ingredient in
which that gets you high, is the Delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) reported by marijuana users,
and used to help relieve pain and nausea, reduce inflammation, and can act as an antioxidant.
Reasoning behind this is that oxidation damages cells and can lead to the development of disease,
including Alzheimer's, heart disease, and cancer. Cannabidiol (CBD) can help treat seizures, can
reduce anxiety and paranoia, and can counteract the intensity of the "high" caused by THC.
Robert J. DeLorenzo, of Virginia Commonwealth University, gave marijuana extract and synthetic
marijuana to epileptic rats. The drugs rid the rats of the seizures for about 10 hours. Cannabinoids
like the active ingredients in marijuana, tetrahydrocannabinol (also known as THC), control seizures
by binding to the brain cells responsible for controlling

its reported remarkable ability to greatly improve the quality of life in children suffering from
catastrophic epilepsy. Cannabis breeders have developed techniques allowing them to grow strains
of marijuana low in tetrahydrocannibinoil (THC), the chemical that causes the psychoactive effect
of being "high." Instead, the strain contains a high concentration of cannabidiol (CBD) a compound
thought to have medicinal properties. This nontraditional form of alleviating health ailments in
epileptic children has recently stirred controversy in both the medical and political arena.

Essay On Cannabidiol
Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many cannabinoids found in cannabis, but is one of the two major
properties (THC being the other) that are studied to uncover their medicinal benefits in connection
to different ailments. CBD does not produce a euphoric feeling or a "high" in its users, and can
counter some of the effects of THC. The body's endocannabinoid system has receptors that bind to
cannabinoids, with CBD stimulating activity in CB1 and CB2 receptors without actually binding to
them. The ability of CBD to bind to CB2 receptors and activate the immune system is the pathway
created for immune cells to seek after and destroy cancer cells in the body. The majority of research
that focuses on the connection between CBD and various forms of cancers, in general, does not
point to a whole plant cannabis treatment. However, when seeking out cannabis' medicinal value in
treating bladder cancer, whole plant cannabis use appears to have a positive impact on decreasing
the chances of bladder cancer developing in individuals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Legalization Of Marijuana ( Cannabis )
Cannabinoids and Cancer
Cancer is soon to be the leading cause of death in the United States. It currently accounts for nearly
one in four deaths, and it is estimated that 1.6 million new cases will develop in 2014
(Freimuth,Ramer,&Hinz, 2009). Today, there are many treatments for cancer but they need to be
implemented early and aggressively to achieve a therapeutic outcome. Therefore, it only makes
sense to adventure out in the hopes of finding a more effective cancer treatment. Marijuana is a
controversial topic in the news today, with many people for the legalization of medicinal use.
Marijuana(cannabis) contains various organic chemical compounds known as cannabinoids. In the
past few years, research into the anti–tumorigenic effects of cannabinoids have yielded some
breathtaking results. This recent research has shown cannabinoids have the ability to inhibit tumor
cell growth, and even program the cancerous cells to destroy themselves. These studies have also
demonstrated that cannabinoids can affect the way tumor cells metastasize, and invade other tissues
(Freimuth,Ramer,&Hinz, 2009). The following review will outline the data related to the impact of
cannabinoids on cancer cell viability as well as their effectiveness in cancer symptom relief,
compared to the treatments currently being practiced. The findings discussed here hope to shed new
light on the therapeutic and anti–tumorigenic uses of cannabinoids.

Should Marijuana Be Legalized In Texas Essay
Marijuana is a current popular topic today. Currently legalized in 29 states, marijuana has medical
benefits, but also some negative benefits. Marijuana should be legalized in Texas because it benefits
people with serious illnesses and it financially benefits the state. Marijuana consists of many
ingredients, but the one with all the medical benefits is an active ingredient called CBD or
Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol helps people with serious illnesses without giving the person a high, also
there are no negative effects of Cannabidiol. The National Cancer Institute performed a clinical trial,
which concluded that HIV and AIDS patients who took dronabinol, a drug formed from marijuana,
had increased their appetite and stopped losing weight (Jackson). With there being no toxicity in this

North Carolina And Legalization Of Marijuana
NORTH CAROLINA MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION
Marijuana usage both medical, and recreational is a heated topic with strong opinions from millions
of Americans on both sides. While marijuana has been made legal in a handful of states majority of
the country maintains its illegal point of view on the drug. North Carolina remains one of the states
still declaring recreational use of marijuana illegal. North Carolina should legalize the use of
marijuana because of the positive medical benefits, hemp applications, and added tax revenue.
Marijuana, also call "cannabis" is a plant grown all over the world. In the resin of this plant are
multiple variations of "cannabinoids", according to the National Cancer Institute cannabinoids are
"active chemicals in cannabis that cause drug like effects throughout the body, including the central
nervous system, and the immune system" (National Cancer Institute). This being said many people
would argue that anything altering the mental, or cognitive function of an individual should be made
illegal, and yet many pharmaceutical drugs, as well as alcohol do just that. One active cannabinoid
in cannabis is "cannabidiol" (National Cancer Institute), this cannabinoid can reduce anxiety, pain,

Medical Marijuana Argument Analysis
Imagine a world where 65 million people had a disorder that causes painful seizures that can happen
at any moment. Well that's the world we live in, and the disorder is called epilepsy. Epilepsy is a
disorder that cannot be cured, but can be treated, although most treatments don't work as well as
medical marijuana. Medical marijuana should be used to treat epilepsy. We have all the research and
knowledge to know how it will affect the patient in positive ways.
People have been researching the effects of Medical Marijuana since the 1890. One of the
researchers was a British physician named John Russell Reynold. Dr. Reynold found that
Cannabidiol (a chemical in marijuana) can be used to treat epilepsy (source 4.) Another researcher
named Dr. William O'Shaughnessy studied the effects of cannabidiol in the 19th century. He studied
the effects on a newborn baby who was 40 days old when he started testing, and he reported a

argument is that medical marijuana has not been tested long enough to be considered usable for
medicine. Well it has been tested and almost all studies have shown improvement. Plus it is
approved by the FDA.
Without the use of Medical Marijuana for epilepsy it would be a great waste for epileptic medicine.
Also, we wouldn't be able to help millions of people daily if we don't use medical marijuana. During

A number of synthetic cannabinoids have been refined, produced and used in clinical drug trials and
have exhibited various levels of effectiveness, one of the more promising of these synthetic

negative effects (Shrabek et al., 2008; Beaulieu, 2006).
For some time now neuropathic pain has been exceptionally hard to treat, and evidence suggests that
the continuation of using ineffective opioids is irresponsible. Behavioural studies of rats with
allodynia have shown that the use of cannabinoids can significantly reduce the effects of
neuropathic pain (Herzberg et al., 1997). Furthermore THC and CBD have repeatedly shown their

of fear or uneasiness. Short–term feelings of stress and anxiety can help build resiliency and help
you overcome tough situations. However, if stress and anxiety reach to the point where it affects
your ability to function in your daily life, a more serious issue has developed which should be
addressed. Cannabinoids induce varying responses on anxiety and fear–related behaviors. Source

Add to that; arthritis. Screws with me in my lower back area and right hand. Plus, I'm taking a shit
load of pharmaceutical (gabapentin) to help cope with the never ending nerve pain I have.
Especially leg cramps at night. Off the chart pain sometimes. Like I said, injuries and I'll add to that,
aging. On the average, using a pain scale of 1 (irritating) to 10 (morphine please), I'm always a 1 to
3, 24/7. It gets worse. I can't really count on that, for the sole reason that the pain can jump from a 3
to a 7, five minutes from now. Always unannounced. Twenty minutes and I need to sit down.
Twenty minutes sitting and I'm needing to stand up. Pain dictating my moves. More to tell, but I'll
spare you all the shitty details. I obviously qualify for medical marijuana. That's the point I thought
needed to be made. In casual conversation, I just say I'm injured. Most times I don't even say that. If
not for cannabis I would seek out other means of pain relief. Alcohol and opiates would be my
favorite pair. By doing so, I'd be taking years off my life expectancy. Pot distracts me, and for
moments at a time, I forget I'm hurt. Just toking flower, don't take my pain away. Helps me cope
with it better. A great tool to have in your own medical arsenal. Personally, I try to be never without
it.

Marijuana In Australia Essay
What is marijuana? Marijuana is a plant that people use for various reasons, whether that is for
medicinal, recreational, social, personal, religious or nutritional uses. Recreational cannabis
(marijuana), is designed to help get people high, the compound that recreational users chase is
Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. THC is the active ingredient in marijuana, which bonds with specific
receptors in the brain to produce a number of effects. It can have a sedative effect, relax your
inhibitions, increase your appetite, lower your blood pressure and many other factors. Marijuana can
also interfere with your short–term memory, lower your reaction time and make you unsteady and
off balance. Even though marijuana has been classed as an illegal drug, there are some negatives,
there are many studies that prove marijuana is less harmful to our bodies than other legal dangers,
such as drinking or smoking. What is medical marijuana? Marijuana has been used for medicinal
purposes for a long time now, its origins date back 5,000 years. Medical marijuana refers to the use
of marijuana to treat a variety of health conditions. Marijuana, for medical purposes is seeing
increasing coverage in the media. Chief Research Officer, Kymron DeCesare from Steep Hill Labs

What Makes A Good Home Based Nocturnal Seizure Detector?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non–psychoactive extract from the sativa plant that needs to be used in the
medical field. The sativa plant produces both, cannabidiol and marijuana. However, cannabidiol is
very different from the psychoactive drug, marijuana. The difference, marijuana contains a larger
amount of the famous active ingredient, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Which produces the
psychoactive high in marijuana, but cannabidiol does not. Although, cannabidiol is the complete
opposite of marijuana, for the very reason of THC it is a controversial product. Hemp Cannabidiol
could be used for a very beneficial purpose: medicine in seizures. The level of THC in hemp
cannabidiol is minor, though many people are still against the use of this extract for medicine
because of the controversies and little research. According to the peer review, "What makes a Good
Home Based Nocturnal Seizure Detector? A Value Sensitive Design", by Judith van Andel, Frans
Leijten, Hans van Delden, and Ghislaine van Thiel, all from the University of Medical Centre
Utrecht, demonstrates that "Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurological disorders..."

Imagine, the government being your plug. In Aldous Huxley's Brave New World (BNW), the
citizens get a drug called Soma from their government. Soma works as a miracle drug, in that it
gives the mental effects of euphoria, but doesn't give any negative physical effects. When I first

of a government giving its citizens drugs, and how Soma was a major part of how their society

story was Soma. While reading, I made an association from Soma to a real life drug, marijuana. I

Marijuana's psychoactive ingredient is cannabinoids. Marijuana contains more than 100
cannabinoids. Scientists and illegal manufacturers have made many different types of cannabinoids
in their labs, which leads to various types of marijuana species (strains) that act differently from one
to the other (Khamsi). The diversity of the drug increases the versatility of it when used in the
medical, and recreational fields, to give the user different effects varying from each strain.
Marijuana's recreational use was looked upon as dangerous as other Schedule 1 drugs, such as
heroin and cocaine, but there has never been a single case of a human death from an overdose in its
history (Hampton). The government does not know all of marijuana's effects, but puts it in a
category of other lethal drugs which prevents some quality research from being done in private
parties that aren 't funded by the government. The primary psychoactive compound found in
marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC for short. THC basically stimulates your brain cells
which causes them to release dopamine. Dopamine helps control the brain's "reward and pleasure
centers" and gives off "the high". The scientific way THC works is that it mimics the structure of
endocannabinoids, which are molecules which the human body produces naturally.
Endocannabinoids work with cannabinoid receptors to regulate appetite, mood, and memory. Since
THC mimics the shape of endocannabinoids, they

Hydrocodone Research Paper
This past August, scientists announced that they had genetically engineered yeast to produce
hydrocodone, a very powerful painkiller. This development led to a host of new experiments, the

constituents of marijuana, including THC, its main psychoactive compound.

His company is working to create yeasts to produce THC and other compounds of medical interest
in cannabis, including cannabidiol. Biochemists at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany,
reported that a strain of yeast that produces THC had been made, and they have unpublished data to
show that they have also been able to recreate cannabidiol.
Great Ambitions for Yeast–Produced THC
Oliver Kayser, a member of the team of biochemists, shares that both yeasts rely on precursor
modules and not simple sugars, and that only small amounts of THC and cannabidiol can be
produced at a time. He adds that he hopes that they can gradually steer the experimentation so that
yeast can reproduce the entirety of the THC production pathway. With these efforts, he has joined in
with THC Pharm of Frankfurt to attempt to scale the production to industrial levels.
The efforts look promising, but they are still going against a very powerful competitor: marijuana
itself. There are certain strains of the plant that contain 30% THC in dry weight, which is more than
chemists can hope to achieve as experiments stand now. Illicit or not, marijuana itself remains the
main and most potent source of THC, and in the increasing debate of whether or not it should be
legalized.

Effects Of Marijuana And Its Effects On Cancer Cells
The process by which ∆^9–Tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, a major
component of Cannabis sativa, has been found to possess anti–tumor properties of many cancer
types. However, the use of THC is limited; particularly its usage during chemotherapy due to its
psychotropic activity, the ability to affect mental activity, behavior, or perception. In addition, the
exact mechanism in which THC produces this activity is not fully known. For these reasons, there
has been debate about its incorporation as a common treatment for cancer. There is growing
evidence that some pharmacological effects of marijuana are due to Cannabis components other than
THC. C. sativa contains at least 400 chemical components, 66 of which have been ... Show more

Still, in the case of the endocannabinoid anandamide, it has been shown to produce its effects on
cancerous cell growth via a mechanism utilizing the transient receptor potential vanilloid type–1
(TRPV1) receptors and noncannabinoid, nonvanilloid receptors¹. Furthermore, cannabidiol
supposedly inhibits growth of glioma through a completely and independent mechanism in vitro and
in vivo. Today, cannabinoids have been effectively used to treat the two most prominent side effects
of chemotherapy: nausea and vomiting.
The main reason that the use of THC is slim in the future is principally due to the effects it produces
within the central nervous system. These effects include: perceptual abnormalities, occasionally
hallucinations, dysphoria, abnormal thinking, depersonalization, and somnolence (long periods of
sleepiness or drowsiness).¹ One way to dodge these effects is in the use of non–THC plant
cannabinoids, which do not seem to produce psychotropic effects. Canabidiol, for example, is
considered to be nonpsychotropic. A proposed method cannabidiol allays this effect is by preventing
its usual conversion to the more psychoactive 11–hydroxy–THC. Recently, scientists have found
that systematic variations in constituents of THC (i.e., cannabidiol and cannabichromene) do not
affect the behavioral or neurophysiological responses to marijuana¹

How to Dab Cannabis Concentrates
BAILEY RAHN
I (sort of) remember my first dab. I had only smoked flower and hash before, so the number of tools
and steps laid out before me seemed like a lot to handle (and I wasn't even stoned yet!). Dabbing
may seem daunting at first, but it's one of those activities that comes easily once you've seen it done,
so in an effort to avoid having your first time go better than mine, today you 're going to learn how
to take a dab.
Dabbing is basically the flash vaporization of cannabis concentrates once applied to a hot surface
and inhaled. These concentrates (you've maybe heard of shatter, wax, BHO, oil, etc.) are a lot more
potent than marijuana flowers, so a little bit goes a long way. While bud tends to test between 10 to
25% THC, concentrates typically range between 50 to 80% THC, depending on the extract type and
quality. You can even dab non–psychoactive CBD extracts for quick therapeutic effects with little to
no cerebral euphoria, but in some regions these oils can be difficult to find. The Great Wide World

marijuana is what causes users to become high once they have smoked or ingested it. What most
people do not understand about marijuana is that THC is not the only component found in

Argumentative Essay On Medical Marijuana
A controversial issue in health care today is if marijuana should be legally prescribed as a
medication for health–related problems. Currently, marijuana remains a Schedule I drug under
federal law in the Unites States, however, 29 states and the District of Colombia have passed
legislation permitting the possession, use, and distribution of medical marijuana in some form
(Zimmermann, 2017). Proponents for this drug, base their arguments on the numerous therapeutic
effects of it, while the opponents dwell on the stance that marijuana is a drug that has a high
potential for abuse. Realistically, any drug has a potential for abuse, it is not an unknown element
that over the counter laxatives, pain medications, vitamins and even cough syrups have been abused
and probably will continue to be abused.
I think it is important that the public realize that majority of the prescription medicines used today
are made from plants, as is cannabis. So, there should not be an exception for this drug. I also think
that marijuana has a bad rap because it initially surfaced as a street hence illegal drug used among
rebels who got addicted to it, thus making the society have biased stance towards it. The route of
administration of medical cannabis varies; it can be taken via liquid tinctures, oils, smoking dried
buds, edibles, capsules, and dermal patches or nasal sprays (Zimmermann, 2017). Medical cannabis
as it sometimes called, has quite a few advantages to its use. It is said to possibly

Four Surprising Benefits of CBD
CBD (cannabidiol), or cannabis oil is made from the cannabis plant, better known as marijuana.
While there is much debate for and against the use of this natural plant, it's been used for thousands
of years for medicinal purposes. In the 1930s, the recreational abuse of marijuana resulted in the
banning of this plant for any use.
In recent years, the attitude towards cannabis oil has changed because it's been proven to have
therapeutic value across several health conditions. The following will discuss four of the known
benefits of CBD.
Anxiety – Millions of people suffer with anxiety and anxiety attacks brought on by triggers like

Cannabidiol (CBD) was first discovered in the 1940s when it was isolated from different groups
conducting investigation into cannabis. Despite that early discovery, much of the attention has long
been placed on Cannabis sativa L. and delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) for recreational uses.
While fewer studies have focused on CBD, claims of its ability treat ailments such as epilepsy,
arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain and schizophrenia, among other diseases, have reignited
interest in the compound. Consequently, growers are now chartering a new course in their cannabis
production and focusing on CBD–rich strains, while cutting down THC content in an effort to meet

People assume that legalization advocates are "stoners" and don't genuinely care about its medicinal
value. Although this may be true regarding certain individuals, the voices that aren't heard are those
who are struggling to live. The real problem is that people are uneducated on its many different
forms and effects. Not many have heard about cannabidiol oil (CBD), a non–psychoactive
ingredient of marijuana, and how it can literally save a person's life. All ... Show more content on

I was uneducated and didn't even know CBD existed. However, I had the opportunity to witness this
drug saving a life. On March 22, 2014, a baby boy named Liam Bartleson was born into a family
that I know very well. Immediately after birth, he began having apneic episodes and doctors decided
to send him to the University of Iowa's Children's Hospital for further care. His condition was
unknown for over a year, then he was finally diagnosed with an extremely rare form of epilepsy
called Malignant Migrating Partial Seizures of Infancy. Every single day he would suffer 100–150
seizures, some days up to 200. Every other week, he was rushed to the hospital because the seizures
were out of control. His oxygen dropped to life threatening levels causing him to turn black and
blue. Liam was on over 25 narcotics that were supposed to help his condition, but none of them
worked and had terrible side effects. After countless failed anti–seizure medications, narcotics, and
diets, his doctors decided that no medicine could fix him. MMPSI causes major health problems and
most individuals with it don't live past infancy or early childhood. Fortunately, his neurologist had
seen one other case in her career. She was also in charge of a trial case study for Cannabidiol which
seemed to be showing great success. She wanted to use Liam for the study. At first his parents were
against it, especially since his father is a police officer. But none of the countless drugs Liam was on
were helping and he was going to die. Because of the severity of his epilepsy, he was approved for
the trial case study, but wouldn't be able to continue using it legally in Iowa once the trial ended.
The only way they could get the medicine was to move out of the state. The thought was devastating
as their entire family was in Iowa, but they were willing to do anything to help their child. After a
rough battle, the Medical Cannabidiol Act was

Intervertebral Disc Degeneration
CBD May Prevent Intervertebral Disc Degeneration
Intervertebral disc degeneration is a common disorder that is characterized by the progressive
degeneration of the intervertebral discs, resulting in deformity and dysfunction. The structural and
functional integrity of the spine in essence is compromised due to several issues, including
inflammation, diminished oxygen, and deficiency of essential water and sugars, which are key
components of intervertebral discs balance and proper function. In the United States, roughly 5% of
the population experience chronic lower back pain problems, much of which is associated with the
disorder. Intervertebral disc degeneration develops with age, and tends to be more prevalent in
people who have problems with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a 2014 controlled animal study, Protective Effects of Cannabidiol on Lesion–Induced
Intervertebral Disc Degeneration, published in PLos suggests that the non–psychoactive
cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD) may be valuable in reducing physical damage resulting from
intervertebral disc degeneration. In the study, 19 rats with induced replica of human IVD
degeneration (damage to their spinal discs) were divided into three groups, and one administered
30nmol of CBD, one 60nmol, and another 120nmol of CBD; An examination of the discs using MRI
and microscopic analysis revealed that the lower dosages of treatment had very little effect, while
the group given 120nmol of CBD experienced a reduction in damage after the first 2 day and
improvements persisted up to day 15 of the study.
Sourcehttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4269422/ Despite the small sample size, the
researchers were optimistic about the results and felt that future research could uncover even more
about the mechanisms involved in CBD effects. They noted, "Considering that cannabidiol presents
an extremely safe profile and is currently being used clinically, these results suggest that this
compound could be useful in the treatment of intervertebral disc degeneration... Although further
research is necessary to clarify the mechanisms involved in CBD effects, the present results suggest
the possibility of its use for disc degeneration treatment."

Legalizing Marijuana Research Paper
Nowadays marijuana is not only sweeping the nation; it has become a worldwide sensation, and it is
making appearances everywhere on the globe. Marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal in the
US and around the world. No matter how one looks at the combination of words marijuana,
depressant or hallucinogen, there is no positive projected outcome or connotation. If it is true that a
depressant reduces functional and nervous activity and a hallucinogen causes perception–altering
hallucinations, then Marijuana is a drug that causes hallucinations, while reducing motor and
sensory activity, essentially leaving the user a dysfunctional, temporary victim of Panic and
Generalized Anxiety Disorder. The most prominent effects of legalizing Marijuana ... Show more

To be more specific," Delta–9–THC and Delta–8–THC are the only compounds in the marijuana
plant that produce all the psychoactive effects of marijuana" (Institute of Medicine). Cannabidiol, on
the other hand, is less well known (though it accounts for 40% of the plant) and actually has a wider
scope of medical applications than THC. Cannabidiol is where the real medicinal value of Marijuana
comes from; "the problem is growers realized decades ago that THC is what sells; it provides the
floating, euphoric feeling people associate with marijuana" (Giddingson). So if Cannabidiol is
extractable and already exists as its own form of medication, why is there a need for this so called
Medical Marijuana? The ugly truth is that Medical Marijuana is used more for the euphoric high
than it is for the medicinal value. If medication is what people were actually fighting for, then there
would be more arguments and advocates for Cannabidiol than for Medical

Causes Of Cannabidiol ( CBD ) May Inhibit Brain Cancer

  • 1. Causes Of Cannabidiol ( CBD ) May Inhibit Brain Cancer Cannabidiol (CBD) May Inhibit Brain Cancer According to the American Brain Tumor Association (ABTA), roughly 80,000 new cases of primary brain tumors are expected to be diagnosed in 2017, including more than 26,000 primary malignant and 53,000 non–malignant brain tumors. Source http://www.abta.org/about–us/news/brain–tumor– statistics/?referrer=https://www.google.com/ Studies suggest that cannabinoids possess antitumor properties, and particular emphasis placed on cannabidiol (CBD), a non–psychoactive cannabinoid compound and its in vitro antiproliferative ability on human glioma cell lines. Recently, a study shows the potential of the cannabinoid drug, Epidiolex to increase life expectancy in individuals suffering with an aggressive form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Source http://jpet.aspetjournals.org/content/308/3/838 CBD Inhibits Human Glioma Cell Migration The inhibition of endothelial cell migration has been recorded in studies of CBD and angiogenesis, and so, it makes sense that researchers would take it a step further and examine cell migration in brain cancer. In a 2005 study, published in the British Journal of Pharmacology, researchers examined the ability of cannabidiol (CBD) to impair the migration of U87 glioma cells stimulated by conditioned medium. The results indicated that CBD halved tumor cell migration in vitro, but was not mediated by the typical cannabinoid receptors, which the researchers speculate might be due to an interaction with a similar type of receptor showing inverse agonist properties. Source https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1576089/ CBD Offsets THC to Inhibit Glioblastoma Cell Proliferation and Survival It has been suggested in numerous studies that CBD can counteract the effects of THC and exert its healing properties, but it has also been demonstrated that CBD can enhance the effects of THC. "Molecular Cancer Therapeutics," in 2010, published an article in which researchers made the case that CBD enhances the inhibitory effects of THC on human glioblastoma cell growth and survival. Researchers evaluated cannabidiol in combination with THC in the U251 and SF126 glioblastoma cell lines, and discovered that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of these things was tomatoes. Tomatoes were once thought to be very deadly. People avoided them at all cost because they thought these fruits could kill you. These people believed that tomatoes were poisonous for many years. After eliminating tomatoes from their diets, it was observed that people were still being killed by what people thought they were not ingesting. After this conclusion, people decided to investigate these common plants further. It was discovered that the tomato itself was not poisonous, but the cutlery that was used by the people was. One objection is that tetrahydrocannabinol, a chemical found in marijuana, is the chemical that makes people 'high'. It is true that this chemical has some unwanted side effects, however, cannabidiol does not (Abuse). With the research people have done, cannabidiol is even known to do more than tetrahydrocannabinol can. Another concern that has been brought to light is that certain patients undergoing medical marijuana treatments could have dealt with an addiction problem in the past and therefore take advantage of the medication given to them. To counter this argument, most of the hospitals in the states that have approved medical marijuana as a reliable treatment, issue patient identification to each patient (Marijuana). Medical Marijuana may also be used to treat patients that struggle with former addictions. Many people also argue that there are many other different treatments for pain, nausea, and vomiting. This is true, however, with the proper research, marijuana could be used as a potential cure for cancer as well ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Why Marijuana Should Be Legal Many people are pushing their state's legislature to legalize the possession and sale of marijuana to persons over the age of 21. While many people believe marijuana is medically beneficial when used properly, just as many people disagree with this belief. The purpose of this paper is to give the facts supporting both sides of this proposal. Cannabidiol (CBD), and tetrahydrocannabidiol (THC) are the two main active chemicals found in marijuana that have positive medical benefits. Tetrahydrocannabidiol causes pain relief, and cannabidiol seems to impact the brain without a high. Marijuana when smoked can be used to treat the progression of some health conditions, such as glaucoma. According to the National Eye Institute studies in the 70's showed that smoking marijuana reduced intraocular pressure in both healthy eyes and the eyes of a person suffering from glaucoma. In 2012 a similar study was published in the journal of the "American Medical Association" about marijuana. The study stated that marijuana does not impair lung function and can even increase lung capacity. In epileptics, marijuana has been proven to help control, or even temporarily stop the seizures all together. A study was conducted by "Robert J. Before any part of the cannabis can be absorbed into the human body it must first go through a process called "curing." Curing is the process of drying out the leaves and flowers of the plant. • 37. Argumentative Essay On Legalization Of Marijuana My standpoint upon this debate is that I am FOR the legalization of marijuana. Marijuana used recreationally has many hesitant about legalization but the stance of the medical benefits cannot be ignored. There are negative effects that result from someone who may not need marijuana, for instance when marijuana is abused a person can develop a dependency and mess with one's emotions and memory. Everything has its flaws and just like most products, it is all perfect in moderation and for purpose. Scientists have Marijuana comprised of two major compounds with include delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). The active ingredient in which that gets you high, is the Delta–9–tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) reported by marijuana users, and used to help relieve pain and nausea, reduce inflammation, and can act as an antioxidant. Reasoning behind this is that oxidation damages cells and can lead to the development of disease, including Alzheimer's, heart disease, and cancer. Cannabidiol (CBD) can help treat seizures, can reduce anxiety and paranoia, and can counteract the intensity of the "high" caused by THC. Robert J. DeLorenzo, of Virginia Commonwealth University, gave marijuana extract and synthetic marijuana to epileptic rats. The drugs rid the rats of the seizures for about 10 hours. • 45. Essay On Cannabidiol Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of the many cannabinoids found in cannabis, but is one of the two major properties (THC being the other) that are studied to uncover their medicinal benefits in connection to different ailments. CBD does not produce a euphoric feeling or a "high" in its users, and can counter some of the effects of THC. The body's endocannabinoid system has receptors that bind to cannabinoids, with CBD stimulating activity in CB1 and CB2 receptors without actually binding to them. The ability of CBD to bind to CB2 receptors and activate the immune system is the pathway created for immune cells to seek after and destroy cancer cells in the body. The majority of research that focuses on the connection between CBD and various forms of cancers, in general, does not point to a whole plant cannabis treatment. Soma works as a miracle drug, in that it gives the mental effects of euphoria, but doesn't give any negative physical effects. When I first heard about this so called, "miracle drug" I was immediately intrigued. I was enthralled by the idea of a government giving its citizens drugs, and how Soma was a major part of how their society functions. Throughout the story, I thought that one of the most important ideas brought from the story was Soma. While reading, I made an association from Soma to a real life drug, marijuana. Marijuana contains more than 100 cannabinoids. Scientists and illegal manufacturers have made many different types of cannabinoids in their labs, which leads to various types of marijuana species (strains) that act differently from one to the other (Khamsi). The diversity of the drug increases the versatility of it when used in the medical, and recreational fields, to give the user different effects varying from each strain. Marijuana's recreational use was looked upon as dangerous as other Schedule 1 drugs, such as heroin and cocaine, but there has never been a single case of a human death from an overdose in its history (Hampton). The government does not know all of marijuana's effects, but puts it in a category of other lethal drugs which prevents some quality research from being done in private parties that aren 't funded by the government. The primary psychoactive compound found in marijuana is tetrahydrocannabinol or THC for short. THC basically stimulates your brain cells which causes them to release dopamine. Dopamine helps control the brain's "reward and pleasure centers" and gives off "the high". The scientific way THC works is that it mimics the structure of endocannabinoids, which are molecules which the human body produces naturally. Endocannabinoids work with cannabinoid receptors to regulate appetite, mood, and memory. Since THC mimics the shape of endocannabinoids, they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His company is working to create yeasts to produce THC and other compounds of medical interest in cannabis, including cannabidiol. Biochemists at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany, reported that a strain of yeast that produces THC had been made, and they have unpublished data to show that they have also been able to recreate cannabidiol. Great Ambitions for Yeast–Produced THC Oliver Kayser, a member of the team of biochemists, shares that both yeasts rely on precursor modules and not simple sugars, and that only small amounts of THC and cannabidiol can be produced at a time. He adds that he hopes that they can gradually steer the experimentation so that yeast can reproduce the entirety of the THC production pathway. With these efforts, he has joined in with THC Pharm of Frankfurt to attempt to scale the production to industrial levels. The efforts look promising, but they are still going against a very powerful competitor: marijuana itself. There are certain strains of the plant that contain 30% THC in dry weight, which is more than chemists can hope to achieve as experiments stand now. Effects Of Marijuana And Its Effects On Cancer Cells The process by which ∆^9–Tetrahydrocannabinol, more commonly known as THC, a major component of Cannabis sativa, has been found to possess anti–tumor properties of many cancer types. However, the use of THC is limited; particularly its usage during chemotherapy due to its psychotropic activity, the ability to affect mental activity, behavior, or perception. In addition, the exact mechanism in which THC produces this activity is not fully known. For these reasons, there has been debate about its incorporation as a common treatment for cancer. Still, in the case of the endocannabinoid anandamide, it has been shown to produce its effects on cancerous cell growth via a mechanism utilizing the transient receptor potential vanilloid type–1 (TRPV1) receptors and noncannabinoid, nonvanilloid receptors¹. Furthermore, cannabidiol supposedly inhibits growth of glioma through a completely and independent mechanism in vitro and in vivo. Today, cannabinoids have been effectively used to treat the two most prominent side effects of chemotherapy: nausea and vomiting. The main reason that the use of THC is slim in the future is principally due to the effects it produces within the central nervous system. These effects include: perceptual abnormalities, occasionally hallucinations, dysphoria, abnormal thinking, depersonalization, and somnolence (long periods of sleepiness or drowsiness).¹ One way to dodge these effects is in the use of non–THC plant cannabinoids, which do not seem to produce psychotropic effects. Canabidiol, for example, is considered to be nonpsychotropic. A proposed method cannabidiol allays this effect is by preventing its usual conversion to the more psychoactive 11–hydroxy–THC. Recently, scientists have found that systematic variations in constituents of THC (i.e., cannabidiol and cannabichromene) do not affect the behavioral or neurophysiological responses to marijuana¹ ... Dabbing is basically the flash vaporization of cannabis concentrates once applied to a hot surface and inhaled. These concentrates (you've maybe heard of shatter, wax, BHO, oil, etc.) are a lot more potent than marijuana flowers, so a little bit goes a long way. While bud tends to test between 10 to 25% THC, concentrates typically range between 50 to 80% THC, depending on the extract type and quality. • 121. Argumentative Essay On Medical Marijuana A controversial issue in health care today is if marijuana should be legally prescribed as a medication for health–related problems. Currently, marijuana remains a Schedule I drug under federal law in the Unites States, however, 29 states and the District of Colombia have passed legislation permitting the possession, use, and distribution of medical marijuana in some form (Zimmermann, 2017). Proponents for this drug, base their arguments on the numerous therapeutic effects of it, while the opponents dwell on the stance that marijuana is a drug that has a high potential for abuse. Realistically, any drug has a potential for abuse, it is not an unknown element that over the counter laxatives, pain medications, vitamins and even cough syrups have been abused and probably will continue to be abused. I think it is important that the public realize that majority of the prescription medicines used today are made from plants, as is cannabis. So, there should not be an exception for this drug. I also think that marijuana has a bad rap because it initially surfaced as a street hence illegal drug used among rebels who got addicted to it, thus making the society have biased stance towards it.
