Large/ Gross Motor Skills<br />Large muscles contribute to an infant’s ability to move in two directions: up and around.<br />Large or gross motor skills have to do with large muscles and big movements like:<br /> Crawling Sitting <br /> Walking Playing while<br /> Jumping sitting down <br />
  3. 3. Locomotion<br />Locomotion is the ability to move from on place to another<br />
  4. 4. It Takes Time<br />Little by little, babies gain control over their muscles.<br />They need to perfect each skill in order to move on to the next. <br />
  5. 5. From Birth – 33 Weeks<br />Moves head from side to side<br /> Lifts head<br />Moves arms and legs freely<br />Starts turning sideways<br />
  6. 6. By 43 Weeks:<br />The child is able to turn over onto his/her stomach and back again<br />Plays laying down<br />Gets about rolling<br />
  7. 7. By 14 months:<br />The infant gets about crawling<br /> The infant also begins to sit up partly <br />
  8. 8. By 17 moths: <br />The infant can sit up on his/her own <br />Begins to play in sitting position<br />Stand up while holding onto something<br />Begins to walk but needs to hold onto something<br />
  9. 9. By 21months:<br />The toddler is able to sit on a chair<br />Stands up freely<br />Begins to walkfrom place to place<br />
  10. 10. By 28 months:<br />Walks on stairs<br />Learning to jump<br />Learning to run<br />Walks with confidence<br />
  11. 11. By 36 months:<br />Throws objects over head<br />Kicks object<br />Runs with confidence<br />
