  1. 1. CHANGE <ul><li>Change is a process that upsets the “status quo.” </li></ul><ul><li>Change often is a result of an action that creates a problem. </li></ul>
  2. 2. <ul><li>Problems create reactions from a either an individual, a group or the leader of the organization. </li></ul><ul><li>Steinberg said “The essence of intelligence would seem to be in knowing when to think and act quickly, and knowing when to think and act slowly.” </li></ul><ul><li>Leadership is needed for problems that do not have an easy fix. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Management and leadership are different qualities, and both are needed in an organization </li></ul><ul><li>Problems that need leadership are complex and have many dilemmas or possible solutions </li></ul><ul><li>We often look for the wrong qualities in a leader when we are in a crisis. </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>A crisis creates anxiety and we look for someone with a ‘quick fix.” </li></ul><ul><li>We should be looking for someone who will challenge us to face the problems. </li></ul><ul><li>When there is a major problem it often results in changes that we have to make as individuals and as a group. </li></ul><ul><li>When we are challenged to face the problems together or as individuals we can adapt to the changes more easily. </li></ul>
