    2. 2. Project Justification<br />Whiplash is in the top 4 injuries treated by physiotherapists.<br />A 2004 survey carried out by Daniel G. Baldyga showed that…<br />10% of ‘whiplash’ victims became totally disabled.<br />60% of victims needed long term treatment for recurrence of the injury. <br />25% of victims feel the injuries for up to 6 months.<br />Whiplash Rehabilitation Device<br />

Project Justification<br />1 physiotherapy session a week. <br />this is the only correct treatment received.<br />there are only manual exercise programmes to be done at home.<br />these are exercises that offer harm as much as they do help. <br />this is why I believe this to be an area of the market that can be exploited by the creation of a product focused on home rehabilitation. <br />Whiplash Rehabilitation Device<br />

Manufacturing Ability<br />Head gear<br />Bulk made by machine.<br />Many dozens of layers laid on top of each other.<br />Cut to shape.<br />Mesh inner layer for stiffening inserted.<br />All layers stitched.<br />Hole cut for plastic insert.<br />Velcro strap stitched on.<br />Chest strap<br />Bulk made by machine.<br />Material cut to correct size.<br />Slot for thera-band cut at back of the material.<br />Buckles are made by extrusion.<br />Then hand stitched on material.<br />Thera-bands<br />Thera-bands are decided by the physiotherapist.<br />Whiplash Rehabilitation Device<br />

Design<br />The final iteration of the concept, includes: <br />Chin strap - to hold the head gear in place.<br />The thera-band - stretched between head gear & chest strap<br />Plastic coated chest strap - located at middle height on the torso.<br />Exercise involves retracting the chin towards the chest, therefore working the deep-neck flexors<br />Whiplash Rehabilitation Device<br />
