  3. 3. CHECKING OF ATTENDANCE
  4. 4. GUIDE QUESTIONS: 1. What are the processes involve in water cycle? 2. How are this processes connected with each other?
  5. 5. LABEL THE DIFFERENT PROCESSES AND PHASES OF WATER INVOLVE IN THE WATER CYCLE. EVAPORATION CONDENSATION COLLECTION PRECIPITATION
  6. 6. PURPOSE OF THE LESSON identify the four subsystems of the Earth; differentiate each subsystems through student activity; appreciate the importance of each subsystems to the stability of life on Earth through student activity.
  7. 7. THINK, SOLVE & SHOUT Activity LISTEN to the teachers instructions!!! ELICIT/ENGAGE
  8. 8. BIOSPHERE Challenge: Say the word 5 times while you are angry.
  9. 9. Challenge: Say the word 3 times while you are jumping. ATMOSPHERE
  10. 10. Challenge: Say the word 3 times while you are clapping your hands LITHOSPHERE
  11. 11. Challenge: Say the word 5 times while you are covering your nose. HYDROSPHERE
  12. 12. Challenge: Say the word 2 times while you are smiling. SYSTEM
  13. 13. GUIDE QUESTIONS: 1. How did you find the activity? 2. What are your strategies in order to solve the puzzle?
  14. 14. EXPLORE & EXPLAIN Video Presentation: “A Wonderful World Defining Earth's Four Major Subsystems”
  15. 15. GUIDE QUESTIONS: 1. What is the video all about? 2. What are the different materials found on Earth? 3. What part of the Earth does the different materials are found? 4. What do you call this part of the Earth? 5. What are the four major subsystems of the Earth?
  16. 16. • “Earth is a complex system of interacting physical, chemical and biological processes, and provides a natural laboratory whose experiments have been running since the beginning of time.”
  17. 17. EARTH SYSTEM SCIENCE • Earth is a dynamic body with many separate, but highly interacting parts or spheres. • Earth system science studies Earth as a system composed of numerous parts, or subsystems.
  18. 18. STUDENT ACTIVITY CONCEPT MAP 1. Identify your: leader, documenter, presenter, material facilitator. 2. The group is only given 15 minutes to do the task. 3. The group must create or make a concept map and use it to explain how the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere are interconnected.
  19. 19. GUIDE QUESTIONS: 1. What did you learn in making your concept map? 2. How the different subsystems of the Earth are interconnected to each other based on your concept map? Site samples or situation.
  20. 20. EXAMPLE: •Humans (biosphere) built a dam out of rock materials (geosphere).
  21. 21. THE EARTH’S FOUR SPHERES
  22. 22. WHAT IS A SYSTEM? System - a set of interconnected components that are interacting to form a unified whole.
  23. 23. THE EARTH’S FOUR SPHERES
  24. 24. The Earth is a system consisting of four major interacting components:  Lithosphere/Geosphere: comprises the solid Earth and includes both Earth’s surface and the various layers of the Earth's interior.  Atmosphere: gaseous envelope that surrounds the Earth and constitutes the transition between its and the vacuum of space.  Hydrosphere: includes all water on Earth (including surface water and groundwater).  Biosphere: the life zone of the Earth and includes all living organisms, and all organic matter that has not yet decomposed.
  25. 25. ELABORATE/EXTEND
  26. 26. Guide Questions: 1. How this picture does shows all four parts the Earth subsystem working together? 2. As a student how could you help prevent at least mitigate the negative effects of the interaction of the Earth spheres?
  27. 27. Guide Questions: 1. How this picture does shows all four parts the Earth subsystem working together? 2. As a student how could you help prevent at least mitigate the negative effects of the interaction of the Earth spheres?
  28. 28. EVALUATE 1. Each group must create a skit related to earth subsystems and on how you are going to take good care each of the subsystems.
  29. 29. SKIT RUBRIC Task Description: Each group must create a skit related to Earth Subsystems and on how they are going to take good care each of the subsystems. Criteria Exceptional (5) Admirable (4) Acceptable (3) Attempted (1-2) Understanding of Topic  Factual information is accurate  Indicates a clear understanding of topic  Factual information is mostly accurate  Good understanding of topic  Factual information is somewhat accurate  Fair understanding of topic  Information is inaccurate  Presentation is off topic Cooperation  Accepts ideas of others; able to compromise  All members contribute  Accepts most ideas without negative comments; able to compromise  Some members contribute  Unwilling to compromise  Few members contribute  Group does not work together  One person does all the work Presentation  Shows confidence  Informative  Entertaining; engages audience  Speaks loudly and clearly  Appropriate use of body language  Shows some confidence  Presents some information  Engages audience  Can be heard  Some use of body language  Unsure of responsibility  Somewhat informative  Engages audience intermittently  Hard to hear  Some movement  Portrayal stalls  Lacks information  Audience bored  Mumbles  Body language is lacking; inappropriate
  30. 30. Bird breathes oxygen from the air Bird needs water to survive The bird’s habitat (tree) grows in the soil The bird and tree require sunlight
  31. 31. Identify the interactions. Use arrow to answer the activity.
  32. 32. Example Observation: a bird flew from one branch to another Bird breathes oxygen from the air Bird needs water to survive
  33. 33. Hydrosphere Biosphere Geosphere Atmosphere
  34. 34. QUESTIONS 1) Lithosphere are mostly composed of rocks and soil, in what areas in Antique rocks are mostly dangerous and not safe? 2) What do you think is the role of the atmosphere to the continuation of life on Earth? 3) How does living things interact with each other? 4) Fincer is a marine conservationist, he notice that most people in Pandan are not aware of how important Bugang River is to their livelihood, what advices do you think Fincer will do to Save Bugang River? 5) What is the role of the photosynthesis in the Biosphere process?
  35. 35. EVALUATION Each of you are going to create an editorial cartooning related to earth subsystems and on how you are going to take good care of the subsystems. CRITERIA:  Reader Impact --------------------------------- 40%  Community Importance –------------------- 20%  Artistic Quality-------------------------------– 20%  Originality and Clarity of the message – 20%  TOTAL -------------------------------------------100%
