  2. 2. THE BEGINNING… <ul><li>At 12:22 a.m., on January 17, 1991, ten stealth fighters code-named “Thunder” took flight from Khamis Mushait, Saudi Arabia. Close to twenty minutes later, flying at almost 650 miles per hour, they dropped the first bombs of Operation Of Desert Storms, which later became known as the Persian Gulf War. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Some Simple Facts… <ul><li>The attack that was made on January 17, 1991, was on Iraq. While Iran was at war with Saddam Hussein (because he had attacked them), Iraq had become the largest arms importer in the world. They were under the Dictatorship of Saddam but it collapsed on April 9, 2003 after British forces and the U.S. invaded the country. </li></ul>

ALL ABOUT HUSSEIN… <ul><li>Name: Saddam Hussein </li></ul><ul><li>Birth Date: April 28, 1937 </li></ul><ul><li>Birth Place: Takrit, Iraq </li></ul><ul><li>About Him: Saddam grew up in the mud village of Takrit. There the chief language was Baath (which means renaissance or resurrection). And there was a political party called the Baath Party which consisted of many murderers, killers, and hit men. Because of his love for violence and weapons, Hussein became a member of the Baath Party. </li></ul>

On that day he quoted, “I view very seriously our determination to reverse….this aggression. This will not stand. This will not stand! This aggression against Kuwait.” Later admitted “…..I worried that Saddam’s intentions went far beyond taking over Kuwait. With and attack on Saudi Arabia, he would have gained control over a tremendous amount of the world’s oil supply .” </li></ul>
