Becoming Church

 1. 1. Becoming church instead of going to church Understanding God’s church and what it means to become it
 2. 2. God’s Intention - “The Mystery” or “the eternal purpose”

Increase

Express His Son

Fill all things

 3. 3. Ephesians 1:7-10

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

 4. 4. Ephesians 1:11-14

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

 5. 5. The Mystery of the Gospel Revealed Eph 3:1-12

1 For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles-- 2 assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you, 3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. 4 When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ,

 6. 6.

5 which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. 6 This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.

 7. 7.

7 Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God's grace, which was given me by the working of his power. 8 To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, 9 and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things,

 8. 8.

10 so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. 11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, 12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him.

 9. 9. The Church - The Christ

Every time a church is born His Son is increased and expressed

When a person comes to Christ they are added to “the church” as well as added “to the Lord”

As the Church grows, Christ grows

A member becomes part of His body

 10. 10. Acts 2:46-47

46 And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

 11. 11. Acts 5:14

14 And more than ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women,

 12. 12. Acts 11:21-24

21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord. 22 The report of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch. 23 When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad, and he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose, 24 for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

 13. 13. As the church goes….

As the church grows, Christ grows

As the church is glorified, Christ is glorified

As the view of the church is tarnished, the view of Christ is tarnished

As the church is healed, the view of Christ is healed

As the church is recovered, Christ is recovered

 14. 14. Christ takes the church personally - Acts 9:3-5

3 Now as he went on his way, he approached Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 And falling to the ground he heard a voice saying to him, "Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?" 5 And he said, "Who are you, Lord?" And he said, "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting.

 15. 15. The Church Experiences Oneness With Christ

When the church grows spiritually and in numbers, Christ Jesus increases

His body grows larger

The Father’s desire is that this expansion continue until finally his Son fills all in All

 16. 16. When the church is recovered.. Christ rules

21 For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. 22 For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 23 But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

 17. 17. When Christ rules…God is all in All

26 The last enemy to be destroyed is death. 27 For "God has put all things in subjection under his feet." But when it says, "all things are put in subjection," it is plain that he is excepted who put all things in subjection under him. 28 When all things are subjected to him, then the Son himself will also be subjected to him who put all things in subjection under him, that God may be all in all.

 18. 18. Eph 1:22-23

22 And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.

 19. 19. The church is the corporate expression of Christ Jesus

Once-fallen-now-redeemed people now possess Christ’s indwelling life and express it together

It is for this reason alone that becoming church and planting new churches is so vital

As Christ increases the coming age will be fulfilled and God will be all in All

It depends on the church
