  2. 2.  EXPLORE is RES 4th Grade’s version of the 30 minute Intervention Block. Students are grouped with other students who are similar learners. Teachers plan learning activities that are inspired by Dunlap’s Vision Statement. Students are challenged to use their brains in ways they’ve never done before!
  3. 3. Communication Challenge Students competed in teams to build a replica of a mystery structure model. Each student’s role had an impairment that had to be overcome in order to succeed in the challenge. (For•Director : sees the model, but can’t build it.•Builder: builds model without seeing it example, not being able• Runner: delivers directions from the Director to speak or see the to Builder, without being able to speak! structure)
  4. 4. Popsicle Stick Challenges Students were challenged to manipulate popsicle sticks to make various new designs. Students learned to “think outside the box,” and to persevere“Make 3 identical squares by through a frustrating moving 4 popsicle sticks...” problem!
  5. 5. The Great Egg Drop ChallengeStudents werechallenged to createa container thatwould protect a rawegg from breakingwhen dropped fromRidgeview’s roof.
  6. 6.  Students were challenged to create a recognizable object out of various types of geometric solids. Students used Decorative Flower Pot teamwork to Unicorn plan, measure, and build their objects.
  7. 7. MTV ProjectStudents werechallenged to createnew musicalinstruments thatplayed 3 differentsounds. Then theywere grouped intobands, and had tocompose and performan original song forthe class.
  8. 8.  Students chose any GPS topic of personal interest to research. They created presentations in Glogster, Prezi, or Animoto and used the Smart Board to share them with their Explore group. Snakes
  9. 9.  The Roaring Twenties was an exciting time in history. Students in 5th grade were charged with creating a presentation for their classmates. Many options were brainstormed and accepted.
