  2. 2. FEUDAL SYSTEM <ul><li>In medieval times, most of Europe was organized into a  feudal system. The king gave the land barons and the bishops (it self lords became vassals of the King) a change of the barons who give the king's soldiers. </li></ul>
  3. 3. key facts <ul><ul><li>Some powerful barons governed his fief as an independent state with his own army </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Each baron divided his lands into knights  </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>By around 1000,many vassals in england paid the scutage a tax instead of fighting to the king  </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Peasants had no vassals and very few rights </li></ul></ul>
  4. 4. CRIME AND PUNISHMENT <ul><li>In medieval society, punisment Crimes was usually harsh. Convicted criminalsmight be dragged by a horse, whipped, or hanged, depending on the nature of the crime. </li></ul>

WOMEN SOCIETY <ul><li>The medieval church taught that women were inferior to men , and should be meek and obedient to their father and husband. </li></ul><ul><li>When a women married had to give any lands he qowned to her husbanEven thought medieval women had few rights , many worked for living. </li></ul>

Some even operate as tradewomen in their own right  </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Wealthy ladies often organized large house holds  . Some ran their estates when their husbands died or were away at a war or at court , settling  local disputes , managing farmlands , and hand ling finances </li></ul></ul>
