  2. 2. What type of CEO is best for your company? Since we are all different, it’s no surprise that CEOs are also different, each with different characteristics, skills and traits that can help them lead different kinds of companies. A CEO is someone who has to adjust themselves to the company, and should be accessible by the Human Resources Department, because unlike the traditional concept that the CEO is above everything and everyone, the most successful ones work hand in hand with their team, listening to advice and working collaboratively. It will be beneficial for both the CEO and the Human Resources Department to understand what types of CEOs there are and which one will be the best fit for their company.
  3. 3. What type of CEO is best for your company? When a company is hiring a CEO they should be looking at essential factors that can help identify if the CEO is right for your company, which you can read more about on the Jason Hanold SlideShare, you can’t leave aside the fact that in most cases it will also rely on the type of CEO that the candidate is. There are many opinions as to what are the exact types of CEOs, but at the end of the day you can find similarities among the different lists out there. As you read, if you are a CEO start seeing where you fit into this array of skills and traits, the more you know about how you are as a leader, the easier you’ll be able to identify how you want to continue growing as a professional.
  4. 4. What type of CEO is best for your company? If, on the other hand, you are reading as a Human Resources Professional, then you’ll need to see where your CEO fits and analyze what are the best strategies to ensure that the company and the CEO are headed in the same direction. The attacker or Braveheart CEO is the one that will give an inspirational speech, all while still keeping track of the growth of the company. This type of CEO is perfect for those companies that are in process of expansion and need to have the push in the right direction. They are usually quite creative thinkers, as well as flexible to be able to solve problems with ease. Every action will have an immediate goal in mind, which is to help the company expand. This CEO can easily get employees and investors to become invested in their cause and keep them motivated.
  5. 5. What type of CEO is best for your company? This CEO will be able to pave out their vision extremely easily, and although others will be able to get on board, it will be important that they find a way to become mentors to their management team so they are not alone in their quest. Some good examples of this kind of CEO are Howard Schultz Starbucks, or Meg Whitman from Hewlett-Packard. The custodian or fortifier CEO will be most expected to lead a company after a huge venture or when they are in need of defending their marketing position. This CEO is all about making procedures efficient, creating an environment where everyone give their 100% and are open to making consensus decisions. This kind of CEO has been around the block, they’ve not only been leaders before, but also have made mistakes and learned from them.
  6. 6. What type of CEO is best for your company? They also tend to be quite conservative as leaders and take the responsibility of ushering the company into an era of stability and success very seriously. A good example of this kind of CEO is former Ford CEO, Alan Mulally. The final category refers to the Genesis or calf-fattening CEO. Here the company will normally be in a growth state of mind, and this CEO has the skills required to guide the company through the challenges of innovating and inventing new products or services. These CEOs are extremely creative, but can be a bit stubborn, and will take action on their own if they see fit. They will make decisions easily and follow through with resolve.
  7. 7. What type of CEO is best for your company? They are not really engaged in the day-to-day tasks as other CEOs may be, instead they will keep their ear to the ground, listen to their team and make decisions. Their main interest will be in the results of the company, and not too much in what’s done exactly to accomplish these results. It may get a little complicated because this type of manager will take the lead, but will usually not be an all-around businessperson that comprehends all of the details of the company. When determining the type of CEO, it is vital to understand that in most cases they will not be skilled with absolutely all of the different traits required in your company at any given moment, but there is no need to be concerned.
  8. 8. What type of CEO is best for your company? If this is the case, then all you need to do is expand the management team to ensure that the team has professionals that can close the gaps that the CEO has. Even though, the best CEOs will be able to make adjustments depending on the context of the company, the accuracy with which your HR department categorizes your CEO and selects the rest of the management team, will make all the difference between a CEO’s success and failure.
