  2. 2. Should we be afraid of snakes? Few snakes are poisonous. Snakes in North Carolina: Garden snakes, Grass snakes, Corn snakes Copperhead snakes, Mountain rattlesnakes, Water snakes
  3. 3. A Snake’s Body <ul><li>Eyes- See well at night </li></ul><ul><li>Tongue- Primary sensory organ, sense of smell </li></ul><ul><li>Scales (Determine patterning) </li></ul><ul><li>Skin, snakes “molt” (Naomi will explain) </li></ul><ul><li>Do snakes have bones? </li></ul>

How can you tell if a snake is a boy or girl? <ul><li>It is very difficult to tell a girl from a boy snake </li></ul><ul><li>Patterning and color do not determine if a snake is a boy or girl. </li></ul><ul><li>You need a special scientist- a herpetologist </li></ul><ul><li>Corn snakes lay eggs (some snakes have live babies) </li></ul><ul><li>Baby corn snakes hatch in 70 days and get out of the egg using their egg tooth (Naomi will explain) </li></ul>
