2. A small thing can change your life better or worse
Butterfly Effect and Broken Windows Theory
Based on two theories, which are butterfly effect and broken
windows theory, we know that a small thing brings a huge result.
Moreover, we have watched many times several precedents related
with two theories from the media. Nevertheless, when we faced a
small thing in the life, usually we ignored it or even we didn't think
about it because we didn't have time to take care of every single
tiny thing. However, we should know that sometimes the small
thing will change your life better or worse.

Hello my name is Seokin Jang, the first year of MFADT. What I’m going to present is the power of a small thing. Here's my premise. \n
A small thing can change your life better or worse. Based on two theories, which are butterfly effect and broken windows theory, we know that a small thing brings a huge result. We know the law that there is a smoke free zone in a 20 feet from the entrance of each building in New York City. However, many smokers are not following this law. There might be two possible reasons to explain; one is that smokers might not be well informed about the smoke free zone and the other possible reason is that they just ignore it because it's not restricted strictly. I was observing which area smokers usually smoke. And the result of observation is that they liked to smoke near the entrance, which is inside of smoke free zone. So I was thinking how I can make people to smoke out of smoke free zone using a small thing.\n

What I did as an experiment is drawing a single line with a radius of 20 feet in front of the entrance of this building, and writing “Smoke Free Zone” on the street using water-soluble chalk. The purpose of this project is to let people know that it’s the law that you can’t smoke in a 20 feet from the entrance, and we need to respect each other between non-smokers and smokers at the public space. I hope this simple half circle line makes all people to be satisfied. Non-smokers can be free from the cigarette smoke, and smokers don't have to try to read other people's mind during smoking at the public space. \n
Finally, we can see that actually people follow the rule. Not all of’em, but many people followed this rule. The reason that everyone can see the line and sign where the smoke free zone is, and they might feel guilty when they smoke in there. And also it’s gonna be hard to smoke inside of the Smoke Free Zone if there’s no one to smoke.\nIt is based on broken windows theory. One broken window makes people to feel less guilty to break another window.\n
This is the interview for smoker what they think of this project.\n\nHe was a smoker who smoked inside of the smoke free zone.\n\nThrough this mini thesis project, I was satisfied with the result of the experiment, but I found some problems of this experiment, like he said he couldn’t find the sign. So definitely, I want to develop this project more as a next level.\n
