  • Welcome to this video on the mid-Atlantic region Career Development Facilitator Program.
  • The program we offer is the official program of the National Career Development Association, leading to the Global Career Development Facilitator certification from the Center for Credentialing in Education. We use a hybrid learning model which includes classroom sessions and e-learning tasks. Our programs generally are 4 to 6 sessions, most often on a Saturday or at the convenience of the group with whom we work. Most of the sessions are held in the DC metro area, but we offer programs in the mid-Atlantic area as well. The face-to-face sessions are mandatory. In addition to the face-to-face sessions, we use the e-learning version of the NCDA curriculum and supplement the program with various tasks and assignments including interviews, field trips, discussions, webinars, website research and review, podcasts, and other exercises which help you reach the competencies required in the program. These tasks and exercises are performed according to your schedule, but with certain deadlines for completion that are specific to help you complete the program and obtain your certification in a timely fashion.
  • The core program includes a manual and DVD. The program focuses on the GCDF competencies and include the topics of Helping Skills, Labor Market Information, Assessment, Diverse Populations, Ethical and Legal Issues, Career Development Theories and Models, Job Seeking and Employability Skills, Training, Program Management and Implementation, Promotion and Public Relations, Technology and Career Development, and Consultation and Supervision.
  • In order to participate in the e-learning aspect of the program, you need a computer with a DVD player, Internet access (high speed is best), MS Office including Word and PowerPoint, Adobe Reader to read pdf documents, and a telephone capability. A Microphone and headset either integrated into your computer or separate is advantageous and recommended.
  • It is very helpful to be proficient at MS Word and PowerPoint, perform searches on the Internet, send emails with attachments, upload documents, and follow some simple directions to access some IT tools like webinars and websites.
  • In additional to the technology capabilities, and maybe more importantly, you need some personal qualities which will help you through the program. Time management skills are critical – you should spend a couple of hours each week on the tasks, readings, and assignments. Waiting till the last minute with the various assignments will be counterproductive and will make it very difficult for you to complete the program. You need the discipline to meet the deadlines. This a not a program where you sit back and listen to the instructor. It is an active program where doing trumps talking. You need a strong goal orientation to complete the program in a timely fashion. In addition, you will be challenged to think out of the box so to speak. Be prepared to broaden your horizons and get out of your comfort zone a little bit.
  • The certification program is a minimum of 120 hours conducted over about 5-7 months. A final project integrating what you have learned is due 2 months after the last face-to-face session. This project is one of your choosing and is best designed to help you in your current job or to help move your career forward in some way. Upon completion of the program and all the requirements, you are issued a Certificate of Completion which you use to apply for the Global Career Development Facilitator certification from the Center for Credentialing and Education.
  • Participation in the program will bring you new and updated skills to help you provide better services to your students, clients, and customers. It will set you apart from others who do not have the credential or skills thus enhancing your brand and giving you much deserved professional recognition. You will broaden your network and learn from your colleagues. You will earn a certification which is internationally recognized.
  • Instructors for the mid-Atlantic region are Dr. Janet Wall, who is an internationally recognized author, presenter, and career development, and assessment expert. Karol Taylor is a noted trainer, and federal government jobs consultant and is noted for her expertise in diversity and career theory. As appropriate we bring in other career development experts to enhance your experience and professional growth All the instructors have been officers, board members and volunteers in a variety of career and workforce development professional associations.
  • For more information We welcome you to our program.
