### Learning Made Easy Millimeter Gauges

1. 1. This presentation is a simple example of my skills using PowerPoint as a tutorial. I have an additional copy of this tutorial with animation, an embedded movie, and the test at the end of this presentation with clickable buttons as the answers. Unfortunately this web site does not support these functions. Additionally, I created all graphics in this presentation using Photoshop. If you would like a copy of the animated full blown version, please contact me. I will be happy to mail a CD to you with my portfolio samples using Flash, PowerPoint 7, Word, and Captivate. 8. 8.

Measuring the Width of an Item

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work? If the gauge does not turn on, check the small watch battery making sure it is installed properly or replace it.

If the gauge has a locking screw (#10) at the top of the gauge, loosen the locking screw by turning it counter clockwise.

Press the Off/On button (#12) one time to turn it on.

9. 9.

Measuring the Width of an Item

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

Roll the thumb roller (#11) or thumb rest by pushing it forward, to the left, with your right thumb closing the jaws.

Press the Zero button (#13) resetting the gauge to zero.

10. 10.

Measuring the Width of an Item

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

Roll the thumb roller (#11) or thumb rest to the right opening the jaws of the gauge (#1).

To measure the outside width of an object, place the object between the jaws (#1) and then close the jaws against the object.

The item’s measurement displays in the LCD display (#9)

12. 12.

Measuring the Inside Diameter of an Item

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

Place the object over the inside measuring jaws (# 2).

Open the jaws by rolling the thumb roller (#11) or thumb rest to the right until the jaws are tight against the walls of the item.

The item’s measurement displays in the LCD display (#9).

13. 13.

Measuring the Depth of an Opening in an Item

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

Roll the thumb roller (#11) or thumb rest by pushing it to the left with your right thumb closing the jaws.

Press the Zero button (#13) resetting the gauge to zero.

14. 14.

Measuring the Depth of an Opening in an Item

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

Place the flat end of the gauge’s beam (#5) perpendicular to the opening of the item. Make sure the end of the beam (#5) is resting on the top edge of the item. This makes the item’s top the measurement starting point.

Roll the thumb roller to the right extending the depth measuring blade (#3) until it stops.

The measurement displays on the LCD display (#9).

15. 15.

A Manual Gauge is sometimes Called a Sliding Millimeter Gauge

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

It can have pointed or squared jaws.

The manual gauge’s name sometimes includes the description of 60mm or 80mm.

This number describes the gauge’s measurement range. This means, it can measure up to 60 or 80mm.

16. 16.

The manual slide gauge is composed of two parts which slide apart from each other opening the millimeter’s jaws. Pushing the small knob to the left opens the jaws. Sliding the knob to the right closes the jaws.

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?
17. 17.

The top of the gauge shows measurements in inches and the bottom of the gauge shows measurements in millimeters.

The line which travels vertically across both inches and meter measurements is the line used for reading the measurement.

When the gauge is closed, it measures as zero.

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?
18. 18.

When the gauge slides open the vertical line moves on the top and bottom.

Reading the measurement line on the bottom gives the amount in millimeters. This gauge is open 10 millimeters (mm).

Reading the measurement line on the top gives the amount in inches. This gauge is open 3/8 of an inch.

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?
19. 19. What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work? This manual millimeter gauge measures the diameter of an item.

True.

False.

20. 20.

The correct the answer is False.

What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work? The manual gauge only measures the width or length of an item. The electronic digital gauge measures the width, diameter, and depth of items.
21. 21. What are Millimeter Gauges and How Do They Work?

2mm.

½ Inch.

4mm.

The millimeter measurement shown on this gauge is:
