There are some steps you can take to move you toward a more growth-oriented mindset
Step One – Awareness: Hear Your "Fixed Mindset" Voice
You most likely know this voice, even though you may never have identified it as an "inner critic." The first step is to identify that voice and identify the times when you hear it.
These are situations where you are brought back to a fixed rather than a growth mindset.
To do this, you simply need to practice awareness.
Start by identifying the voice when you hear it.
Next, try to remember what event preceded those negative thoughts.

There are some steps to a growth mindset

  1. 1. There are some steps you can take to move you toward a more growth-oriented mindset
  2. 2. Step One – Awareness:
  3. 3. Hear Your "Fixed Mindset" Voice
  4. 4. You most likely know this voice, even though you may never have identified it as an "inner critic." The first step is to identify that voice and
  5. 5. identify the times when you hear it.
  6. 6. These are situations where you are brought back to a fixed rather than a growth mindset.
  7. 7. To do this, you simply need to
  8. 8. practice awareness.
  9. 9. Start by identifying the voice when you hear it.
  10. 10. Next, try to remember what event preceded those negative thoughts.
  11. 11. It's a bit like trying to identify what is causing a stomach ache.
  12. 12. You have to go back and try to remember what you ate just before.
  13. 13. If you're not sure you've identified your inner critic yet, try looking for cues.
  14. 14. For example, look for times when you find that you're doubting yourself,
  15. 15. saying something like, "Can I really do this?"
  16. 16. Or be aware of when you're focusing on failure rather than success;
  17. 17. for example, where you're worrying about what will happen if you fail at something.
  18. 18. A good place to look for your fixed mindset voice is any time
  19. 19. you're trying something new or challenging.
  20. 20. Step Two – Reframe
  21. 21. Once you can recognize the voice,
  22. 22. you can learn to control it.
  23. 23. The way that you interpret challenges, obstacles, or criticism that you face is up to you.
  24. 24. But this is the most challenging step.
  25. 25. It is difficult to reframe the voice
  26. 26. when you have well- grooved patterns.
  27. 27. The way to think about reframing is
  28. 28. to imagine giving advice to a friend.
  29. 29. Naturally, you would never use a harsh, critical voice when trying to help a friend.
  30. 30. If you would never do this with a friend,
  31. 31. why are you doing it with yourself?
  32. 32. We are generally harsher on ourselves than we are with others, so instead of talking to yourself, imagine that you're giving advice to a good friend.
  33. 33. Take each statement that your inner voice gives you and imagine
  34. 34. if it were a friend, your partner, or a family member who was saying it to themselves.
  35. 35. Now, imagine that you're giving them advice and
  36. 36. reframe the negative statement that was made.
  37. 37. Skills examples
  38. 38. Fixed Are you sure you can do that?
  39. 39. Growth I'm not sure I can do it, but I can learn with practice and effort.
  40. 40. Fixed What if I fail? I'll be a failure.
  41. 41. Growth All successful people have failures. I can learn from my failure.
  42. 42. Step Three – Action: Take on the Growth Mindset
  43. 43. After reframing comes action.
  44. 44. What challenges can you take on in order to foster and nurture a growth mindset?
  45. 45. What challenges have you been avoiding?
  46. 46. Choose a challenge and try it again, but this time, turn your fixed mindset around.
  47. 47. Find a work-related or personal task that you've either been shying away from doing or that you feel you've failed at.
  48. 48. For example, There might be an important client you've been meaning to contact but shying away from.
  49. 49. So contact that client
  50. 50. Do the challenge.
  51. 51. you can then apply it to the next challenge
  52. 52. once you have success with the first challenge. You can learn how to re-frame your mindset to take on the next challenge!
