Classroom rules and routines 2011

  1. 1. Welcome Second Grade Class Students and Parents of 2011<br />Ms. Brown<br />
  2. 2. First Day Of school<br />Be ready to work<br />When students arrive to class, I will hand them an entrance slip when they walk in. It is to be signed and dated. <br />There will also be an assignment posted on the board.<br />Take your seat and begin working on the assignments immediately.<br />At the start of class I will collect both assignments<br />Enter room quietly<br />

Classroom Rules<br />Rules will be posted in the classroom<br />Follow directions the first time given<br />Keep hands and feet to yourself<br />Raise your hand to get out of your seat<br />Keep your voice to an inside working level<br />No put downs of classmates<br />If you choose to break a rule<br />1st time= name on board: warning.<br />2nd time= 15 minutes after school on Thursday.<br />3rd time= 30 minutes after school on Thursday.<br />4th time= 45 minutes after school on Thursday.<br />5th time= 60 minutes after school on Thursday. Referral written, and student sent to the office.<br />Severe disruption: student sent immediately to the office.<br />Names and checks erased each Thursday afternoon.<br />

Restroom Procedures<br />Quickly<br />Quietly<br />The pass will be located on the chalkboard<br />Only one student at a time may use the bathroom pass<br />Please go quickly and quietly and wash hands<br />If there is an emergency shake 3 fingers and I will sign yes or no back to you to avoid disruption<br />

Attendance<br />The entrance slip I pass out at the beginning of class will be my attendance tracker<br />Students will sign and date these and I will collect when the bell rings<br />Be on time<br />If not you will fill out a tardy slip <br />5 tardy slips = missed recess or after school detention<br />
  6. 6. Homework Assignments<br />Each student will be given a homework folder <br />Left side= new homework<br />Right side= Completed homework<br />Assignments will be posted on the board at the beginning of the day<br />At the end of the day, I will pass out a copy of your homework assignments to put in your classroom folder to take home<br />When you get to class the next day, put your completed homework in the homework box<br />I will grade and pass back for you to take home<br />

How should my papers be headed?<br />Name should be in the upper right hand corner on the first line.<br />The date should follow on the second line.<br />I will always have the date on the bored for you to look at.<br />You do not need to right the words name and date, I am just showing you an example<br />NameJamie Brown<br />Date June 15, 2011<br />

Seat work<br />Individual seat work<br />Working on an assignment by yourself.<br />Do not talk to your neighbor.<br />Work on assignment quietly.<br />If you have a question, you may raise your hand and I will come around to help you.<br />Group seat work<br /> Working on assignment with assigned group members.<br /> You may talk quietly with those in your group.<br />Talk quietly.<br />Raise your hand if you have a question and I will come around to help you.<br />Do not leave anybody out, or you will be cut from the group.<br />

What can I do when seatwork is finished or I have free time?<br />After I have checked your completed seatwork, you may have free time and do one of the following:<br />Reading center<br />Computer center<br />Listening center<br />Writing center<br />Games<br />Or work on homework at your seat. Place your name in the area you are at.<br />Work quietly, so that other students can get their work finished. <br />
  10. 10. Volume Control<br />When you have permission to talk, please talk with an in door voice. If it gets too loud, I will flip the light switch off! If you do not quiet down after the lights are off, you will be given a writing assignment about loud verses quiet. If you continue to misbehave you will have detention.<br />
  11. 11. Handing out Classroom Materials<br />Helpers<br />I will choose two students per week to be my helpers.<br />Their duties will be to pass out papers, collect papers, pass out other materials needed for that day such as: markers, scissors, glue, and other supplies.<br />Feed classroom fish.<br />You will also be line leaders to and from class.<br />Brent and jade<br />
  12. 12. Visitors<br />When we have visitors in the classroom you should be on your best behavior.<br />Be welcoming.<br />Treat them with respect.<br />Be courteous.<br />Wait and ask questions until they say, do you have any questions.<br />
  13. 13. Class Discussions<br />Class discussions are meant for students to participate and give feedback.<br />I want you to feel free to comment and add to classroom discussions.<br />In order for us to not talk over one another, I would like you to raise your hands when you have something to say.<br />

Classroom Departure<br />Student line up<br />When we are leaving to go to other classrooms or lunch students will wait for me to dismiss and line up<br />When I dismiss to line up, students must do so quietly<br />Line leaders will be in the front of the line<br />Students will stand in straight line and no talking, then we can head out <br />Walking no running<br />Moving through halls<br />As we are walking through the halls to classrooms or lunch, we will remain in a single file line<br />Remain quiet<br />We will always walk down the right side of the halls when we are coming and going<br />
  15. 15. Fire/Tornado Drills<br />Bell will sound<br />Students will line up and be dismissed by teacher .<br />We will walk to designated area.<br />Sit down.<br />Students may talk quietly.<br />
  16. 16. At the end of the day!<br />We will line up 3 minutes before the bell rings.<br />We will walk to our designated area, where students can get on the bus or be picked up by their parent or guardian.<br />Anyone staying after school will return to the classroom with me until their ride arrives.<br />
