  4. 4. Who is Odysseus?• Laertes, King of Ithaca marriedAnticlea.• They purchased a slavewoman, Eurycleia.• Laertes and Anticlea had a son; wasnamed “Odysseus”, by his grandfather

  9. 9. Odysseus’ & the GodsThe Greeks are beset by terrible storms on the way home; many ships are destroyed and the fleet is scattered. Odysseus and his crew are blown off course, which starts a decade-long series of adventures for the great Greek chief.

  22. 22. 6th : Aeaea (Circe’s Island)• After the Land of theLaestrygonians, Odysseusand his one ship with onecrew come to an islandcalled Aeaea.•Here an enchantressnamed Circe lives.
  23. 23. 6th : Aeaea (Circe’s Island)• After an initial setback, Odysseus andCirce become friends and lovers.•Circe captures Odysseus, and putshim under her spell. She turns his meninto swine.
  24. 24. 6th : Aeaea (Circe’s Island)• Hermes gives Odysseus a magicalherb that will help Odysseus escapethe spell of Circe and have his menchanged back into humans. Circealso helps Odysseus with his searchfor Ithaca.
  25. 25. 7th : The Underworld / Realms of Hades • This is the Island of the dead also known as the Underworld. •Odysseus must go here to talk to the prophet Tiresias.
  26. 26. 7th : The Underworld / Realms of Hades •Tiresias tells Odysseus of how he must get home, and of the upcoming dangers that lay ahead. With the newly acquired knowledge, Odysseus and his men leave the underworld and travel back to Aeaea to bury one of the crew who had died there.
