A resident of Niagara Falls, Ontario, James Frizzell, DDS, is a compassionate dentist. He spent the summers of 2009 and 2010 doing charity dental clinic work in Mexico, where he screened patients in orphanages and provided them with treatment. The Niagara Falls-based Frizzell Dental owner, Dr. James Frizzell, also works after office hours to treat emergency trauma cases. Dental trauma is the physical injury to the mouth including gums, teeth, alveolar bone, lips, tongue, and jawbone. Most dental trauma cases are caused by accidents such as vehicle collisions, falls, and playing sports, or violent behaviors such as physical abuse or fights. There are various types of injury that fall under dental trauma. They include lacerations of gums and lips, chipped tooth, jaw fracture, missing or jammed teeth, and tooth fractures such as enamel and root fractures. While treatment of dental trauma cases is dependent on the nature of the trauma, it is essential to have the teeth and mouth examined by a professional dentist as soon as possible. The dentist may require the patient to do some x-ray tests to determine the extent of the damaged jaw or broken teeth. If dental trauma cases require more advanced techniques and skills to save injured teeth, the dentist can refer the patient to an endodontist.
