The document discusses how the author's short comedy film draws from conventions of existing comedy TV shows and films like Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, and Superbad. It conforms to genres like male teenage comedy but challenges expectations by using non-stereotypical actors. Audience feedback confirmed the film's similarities to popular comedies helped attract the target viewers. New media technologies were crucial throughout development, allowing research of source materials, audience surveys, production using equipment like digital cameras and iMovie, and distribution on the internet and social media.

2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
My short film, as a comedy it inevitably conforms to some conventions of pre-existing products.
By trying to make it more appealing I decided to follow the route of more conventional comedy
such as ‘Peep Show’ and ‘The Inbetweeners’.
Like ‘The Inbetweeners’ there a teenage males in my film who produce comedy through the
conflict between them. It develops this convention by only having two characters thereby
limiting the potential of the situation to escalate; I have done this to make it more main stream
and appealing.
I have also thought about the mise en scene and used the principle of using actors who do not
c
conform to the stereotype of most male teenagers. This idea can be seen in many pre-existing
comedy short films and series.

For initial research I looked at the comedy TV series, ‘The Inbetweeners’ and ‘Peep Show’. I
thought it was important to look at TV series because the foundations of the piece would be
very similar to my project which is a comedy short film. I have used the conventions of using
the dates when it will be released and a ‘tag line’ for the film from looking at ‘The
Inbetweeners’ movie poster. I also looked at American comedy films such as ‘Superbad’ and
decided that the red title looked eye catching, however whilst researching I also thought the
‘Shaun of the Dead’ landscape poster approach worked really well and by incorporating this I
have challenged the traditional conventions for a comedy film poster.

5. Audiences opinion:
•John Macgregor thought that “the similar colours thought out the three projects makes the work
easily reconisable.” This is useful because I now know that I can attract a target audience and
im conforming to the conventions of preexisting comedy projects.
•Alice Saunders thought that “the mise-en-scene well thought out and it links them together.” The
costumes, the area and the characters are the same so in this sense the three projects link
themselves together.
•I also believe that the font is also similar, its clear and bold, however the specific font types are
slightly different, I did this because I didn’t want the styles to become too repetitive.
6. What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Before I started making my product the surveys that I created showed that the majority of the
people who I asked, and who were in my target audience, preferred conventional comedy such
as ‘The Inbetweeners’.
This intern provoked me to think about mise en scene more and I asked the actors in my film to
dress in the clothes that would make them sick out in a modern day society as teenage males.
This also aided me in the actual creation of the film because before the characters even say
anything the audience can make certain judgements about what the film will be like.
7. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning
and evaluation stages?
I used many new media technologies in order to finish my project; one of the most important
was the digital camera. I used it in all the stages of the development, it was key because I
needed it to experiment with primary shots and editing.
The internet is another technology that was necessary for me to complete my project, it allowed
to access Blogger to construction my work and also it aloud me to analyse pre-existing comedy
videos through YouTube.
I also used social networking sites such as Face Book to achieve audience feedback by
uploading my video to it. I used email and mobile phones to organise the actors in my film, this
allowed me to get the time I needed to film effectively. For the actually construction of my video
I used Imovie which allowed me to upload and edit it.

9. Summary Paragraph
The impact of Wed 2.0 and new media technology cannot be overemphasised. It allows us
as an audience and consumers of media products do also be producers though programs
such as YouTube and Imovie. This technology also allows myself, as a producer, to directly
access my target audience and get instant feedback, I can do this through social networking
sites such as Facebook but also on YouTube. Because of this I can also reach out to a mass
audience because anyone can view my product now its on YouTube.
